Highly recommend Lals Cottage, just outside of Galway in Spiddal. Not only is the cottage historical it is beautiful and fully equipped with three bedrooms and baths. It is right across the street from the water, and within walking distance to grocers, eateries, and the pubs within Spiddal. The owner made us feel very welcome and was available to answer any questions we had or offer recommendations as needed. Spiddal was a wonderful place to stay and Lal's Cottage made it even more special. We will definitely consider staying here again when in Ireland.

The cottage was fantastic. Everything needed for a vacation was there. The location was great, right in town and a quick walk to pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and the bay. Carmel was wonderful and quite a source of local information. We will stay there again. Dennis J. Dalton

Great little cottage situated in the heart of Spiddal Village within walking distance of several sandy beaches, pubs and shops. Ideal for family wanting some on the door step fun on the beach with children. For the rainy days there are plenty of castle's, gem mines and trips out to be had. The local spar shop (attached to the garage) has a great hot food takeaway counter mainly catering for the lunch time trade, although on Sunday it runs on abit longer into the early evening - (beef, mash and veg - bacon chop, potatoes and veg, curry, whole hot chickens all for around Euro 4.50 - generous portions). This shop has everything you need although more pricey than the UK but found it very convenient to top up as you go rather than do a big shop. Fuel is cheaper than the UK. If travelling from abroad and you have the room in your car you would be wise to bring dried foods such as cereals, jams, soup etc and wine as these proved expensive. Fishing nets and traditional seaside kids toys are sold here also. In the smaller spar shop in the village I found a proper kids fishing rod for 15 Euro's - which was great and completed my nephew's dreams. The library was closed down due to staff retirement and so you had to go to the local pub for wifi-internet. The cottage has traditional upright seating. There is no bath (which is understandable due to size of the cottage) but 3 toilets and 2 showers was plenty. Bring a handful of 2 Euro coins for the electric meter. Parking straight outside the back door. You would be hard pressed to find a more ideally situated cottage complete with modern facilities. We couldn't have been made more welcome by our hosts.

From the outset Carmel and Martin exrended a warm Irish welcome to us to Lal's coattge. We arrived very late in the night and were greeted by Carmel with her homemade scones and jam! The cottage is everything you would expect from a traditional Irish homestead but with with all the modern conveniences you need for a perfect stay. There are 2 lovely beaches just across the road with a health food shop and wellbeing centre just two steps away not to mention Spiddal's wonderful public library in what must be thee most picturesque setting for a library anywhere in the world. During our stay we had both family and friends join us and there was plenty of room for everyone with three toilets an enusite and a separate bathroom. If you are looking for an authentic Irish cottage experience in the West of Ireland then Lal's cottage is the place to go. A very special place indeed.

I was with my two adult daughters on holiday in Ireland and spent a week at Lals cottage in spiddal. Cottage located centrally within walking distance of pubs, safe beaches, walks, restaurants, shops and craft village. Carmel the owner was extremely hospitable and provided everything we needed including scones and cakes! Very comfortable stay and the only thing that could possibly improve it would be wifi but that was available at a couple of the pubs for free. I would highly recommend booking this cottage for anyone wanting to explore the west of Ireland and the Aran islands.
