As soon as we checked into this fabulous place, we added two more nights there. A killer setting, wonderful meals and outstanding accommodations, it was a no-brainer to extend our stay and settle in.

We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there, and the service could not have been better. Peter knows his way around a kitchen and you can taste it in every bite.

We toured Donegal Peninsula and headed into the interior lakes region, knowing we would be coming back to Castle Murray GH for the night.

Just terrific!

We had been to Castle Murray for one night and it was great like last time. Delicious food in the restaurant with a great view of the bay. Quiet room with windows which could be opened. Breakfast with the yummy choices of full Irish, Porridge and lots of other options. Travellers looking for a quiet place to stay will love it there.

We spent the night at Castle Murray in early May just before the start of tourist season and we were the only guests, so we were treated quite well! The room had a king size bed and a limited sea view, with a more contemporary feel than other places (castles) we stayed in Ireland. But the common areas have old world charm with impressive views of the Harbour and distant views of the Slieve League Cliffs. Peter and Fabrice served us a delicious breakfast of smoked mackerel caught by Peter’s brother off Norway in winter, along with homemade scones and yogurt and fruit. When the inn has more guests, Peter cooks dinner on certain nights and we heard good things about his food. This is a good thing because the area doesn’t have too many restaurant options. We got great advice for exploring the region and excellent parking advice for the Cliffs (drive through the gate and continue to the second parking lot at the top of the Cliffs) and found some beautiful coves and beaches. Unfortunately it was very windy or rained heavily most of the time we were in Donegal, and we decided to head to Northern Island, but Donegal was rugged and gorgeous and we recommend more than one day to explore it in better weather.

Castle Murray, near Donegal, is a bed and breakfast that is unlike any other I've visited in Ireland. The house is charming and has a panoramic view that includes pastures a quiet bay, and mountains. The house is charming, the rooms are cozy and comfortable, and the breakfast -- especially the scones -- is excellent.

If that were all, I would have considered it to be a delightful place to stay. What bumps it from "delightful" to "superb" is (1) the full restaurant service they offer a few evenings a week and (2) the staff.

The Castle Murray dinner menu is short is built around fresh, locally sourced vegetables, meat, and seafood. I was part of group of three and everything we ordered was excellent.

As to the staff, all I can say is thanks for your hospitality and attention to detail. I said as I was leaving that I suspected it would be my favorite spot on an 8-day trip. It was indeed.

Great place with a magnificent setting. Wonderful rooms, very good fine dining food. Convenient location for touring around. Very frinedly and efficient staff. Perhasp the only downside was the erratic wifi, which for me was important to be in touch with our business back home.
