Mary and Declan are perhaps the two nicest folks you will ever come across. Their home is beautiful and has been in the family for generations. The town is a short drive up the road. A wonderful experience!

As the other reviews have mentioned, Mary and Declan are wonderful hosts. Mary is not only a genius in the kitchen (fantastic breakfasts) but also very sensitive to traveler's needs. My wife had a cold, which Mary recognized right away and was there offering herbal teas and comfort (Mary uses many fresh herbs from her garden for tea and for her cooking). Breakfast Tip: the fresh fruit, homemade yogurt, and oatmeal are all the best we had in Ireland.
Declan was also very helpful and considerate. We watched him for three days teaching the Irish sport of hurling to two French children out on the front lawn. He also gave us many hints about hikes in the area and restaurants in Ennis, etcetera.
The rooms are a bit small, but overall this is a lovely spot to spend a few days in the Irish countryside.

Fergus View was one of our best lodgings. It's a beautiful house in the countryside with a lovely garden and fabulous views of those wonderful green hills of Ireland. Within five minutes of our arrival we were in the sitting room with tea and cake! The room was smallish but pleasant. The bathroom had obviously been newly decorated. The breakfast was outstanding. Not only was it made to order, they grow and make most of the ingredients! We were directed to a nearby pub for dinner; it was the most gourmet pub food we'd ever had! A real find! We were also directed to hike a bit in Burren Natl Park, a lovely place. We wished we'd had more time to explore the area as it's beautiful and off the beaten track. We had only one night there but would have liked more!

Room Tip: Wifi is in the sitting room only.

Lovely home. Mary and Declan are so genuine and nice that you feel right at home!!! The rooms are smallish, but they open their sitting room each evening and it has a nice turf fire. Now, this is also where the wi-if is available so it turns into a new age gathering place where we travelers come together in the evening.....actually better than a TV. Now, even we older travelers ten to be absorbed in our "little machines" yet Mary will come out and share stores and give information.

Our room was a double with a small bath....certainly adequate. Has hairdryer, toiletries and a great shower. Fruit and candy are left in the room.

The highlight of Fergus View is the breakfast. Mary and Declan team together to put together a five-star breakfast. Choices include a full Irish breakfast, crepes, eggs, cereal including porridge, and wonderful breads. If you are fortunate enough to be served some of Mary's "breakfast dessert" brownies, certainly give them a go: they are wonderful!!!

Fergus View is conveniently located in County Claire and it close to a number of well known and some not so well known sites.

Mary & Declan were so welcoming to us as we arrived from a long flight. My husband was flustered from the driving on the "other side of the road' and Mary quickly put him at ease. They were always offering tea and homebaked goods which added such a lovely touch. Declan was as helpful as ever reviewing maps with my husband and helping us to decide where we would go and what we would do. They sincerely felt like family to us! We spent three nights at Fergus View and had a wonderful restful place to settle down to, and an amazing breakfasts every morning! The attention to detail at the lovely breakfast tables and in the room was just so special. It made the entire experience the best ever! I really cannot say enough about them! We met their daughter who was as lovely as they are. The interaction with them made us feel more like locals rather than foreigners. We are forever grateful for their hospitality, and they are such hard working people with their ability to make us feel like family. They also told us about a man named "Harry" who has a small tea/coffee shop at the end of the Burren hike. We stopped and met Harry who turned out to be such a hidden gem with his wife. I believe her name Is Marie. They gave us tea, homemade apple pie and brownies that were out of this world delicious! Harry only takes donations and is so genuine in character. Lovely....so lovely. We made such great memories. I would go back in a heartbeat only this time I would stay longer. Don't pass them up! Thank you so much Mary & Declan! Sincerely, Denny & Connie Matlock
