“Great property, but snooping neighbor freaked us out”
Reviewed 20 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

My friends and I loved visiting Watauga Lake this past weekend, and the cottage was a fantastic place to stay. Everything was very clean and nice, and the view of the sunset from the front porch was beautiful. However, we did find it very difficult to find the property using the instructions provided. Luckily there was a sign, but since we arrived after dark we still passed it a few times before we noticed it. The only other concerning part of the trip was a neighbor who we found snooping outside of the house. We were in the yard using the fire pit when we noticed a light and rustling in the brush behind the house. We identified him as a man and we asking him what he was doing and he responded "how did you guys see me?" which really creeped us out. He had a flash light and a beer and was hiding behind the edge of the house. He left after we confronted him but it was definitely unsettling. He said his name was Rusty, I don't know if this sort of thing has happened before but if he has lived in the area for 30 years like he told us then he should know this is a rental property and that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. He seemed relatively harmless and possibly drunk so we didn't call the police after he left, but someone snooping behind your house with a flash light can only be so harmless in my book. It was definitely suspicious behavior that I would hope doesn't happen regularly. I would recommend this rental to a friend but with a warning to close the blinds and lock all the windows and doors before you sleep.

How easy was it to book the property? How helpful were the directions to the property?
How easy was key pickup/access to the property?

Glad you enjoyed your weekend at the cottage. Its a great area with lots of activities. From hiking to shopping there's lots to do. Yes, the views there are really beautiful and housekeeping keeps the place clean as a whistle - thank you for your kind words. Never heard of anything like this before. Must be an isolated incident. The housekeeper & her husband live walking distance from the cottage. Good ones to call if need be.
Come back and see us real soon!

“A perfect clean and cozy get away!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

This was a sister reunion trip as we both have a love for the mountains. We were very pleased with the clean, cheerful and very cozy cottage. The agency did an excellent job providing us with directions to the cottage and information on surrounding activities. We were well prepared with bringing our food so getting groceries was not an issue for us. There are several towns 30 min. Away that one can stock up. We suggest arriving in the day time as we arrived in the dark due to circumstances beyond our control. Following the directions provided to us was very helpful, however, a sign should be placed right by the cottage where one has to make a very sharp right hand turn as it is not at the end of the gravel road. Although there is no cell or internet access at the cottage just driving 10 min. Away will give you access again. For us it was refreshing to get a break from technology.
We enjoyed our morning routine of having coffee on the deck observing wildlife and the misty mountain tops. There were endless daytime activities within an hour's drive. We enjoyed hiking at Roan mountain and visiting Blowing Rock. Watauga Lake was absolutely beautiful. A peaceful boating lake and so refreshing when swimming. We so enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner at the Captain's Table overlooking the lake. The agency does a very nice job of also proving renters a notebook at the cottage of activities within an hour's drive.
This is a perfect little get-away of great comfort, serenity and seclusion. The beds and furniture were extremely comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with the basics. I would love to come back with my husband and our little Sophie since it is pet friendly.

So glad you enjoyed your stay here at the Banjo Ridge cabin on alakecabin4u It is adorable and the housekeeper does an excellent job of keeping the place really clean. She was very thankful for the nice gratuity that you left her and sends a big thank you back. Its a really private place, so you feel like your a million miles away but town is just 25 minutes down the road with grocery stores, shops etc .. Loved the pictures you emailed of the deer and turkeys those woods are just full of them.
Thank you again for your kind words. Know you are welcome back anytime. Bookmark and reference alakecabin4u

“Better view than advertised, clean and peaceful retreat”

Off U.S. Highway 321 just across the North Carolina/Tennessee border in Butler, Tn is a nice cottage off the beaten path that offers, peace and quiet with a refreshing view of the surrounding mountains. The view was better than advertised. It is easy to have your morning coffee and watch the fog roll in or to sit and watch the hawks soar above the valley below. The long range views are at least 20 miles and you have about 150 degree arc that you can see far off views. This cottage is a short drive from Watauga Lake a very peaceful, lake that offers boating and fishing opportunities from either of the main marinas serving the lake. It is about 25 minutes outside of Boone, NC and shopping is limited in the area so make sure you hit the grocery in Elizabethton, TN or Boone, NC before heading to the cottage. As for the cottage it is a new, well constructed, cozy two bedroom unit, with two baths, one has a jacuzzi, complete kitchen, nice outdoor gas grill, Direct TV and nice furnishings and comfortable queen sized beds. There is a selection of a dozen or so movies, a couple of puzzles to keep you occupied, and cards. If you are bringing the kids you may want to bring a couple of games to keep them occupied since there is no WIFI or internet connections since the location is in the mountains. You can hear a river from the porch and the gravel driveway to th cottage is easily accessible with a standard vehicle. In the winter months it would be advisable to have 4WD though in case of inclement weather. The fall colors were out in all its' splendor and you can walk up the drive for a ways before encountering a fence/gate. This accomodation is great for those seeking peach and quiet. Very nice location, close to Banner Elk and Boone.
