Nice State Park. We just spent some time day hiking and took in the sights around the park. There is a $2 fee to enter the park. We were staying on Lake Marion and trying to visit some of the State and National Parks and Forests in the area. You may also want to check out Congaree National Park and Poinsett State Park.

My husband and I stayed in Pier Cabin 010 and loved our experience there for 4 days. Our son and his wife joined us on the second day and a friend and his family stayed at the campgrounds in their camper. It is so nice to be able to "park" your boat right in front of your cabin. We had no complaints except that the cart used to push our luggage, etc. to the cabin from the car had very small wheels and it was hard to push. It would be better with larger wheels. Also, there was a little raccoon that stole all of our fish out of the cooler and the livewell of the boat. It was OK, though, because they have to eat, too, but we did learn a lesson not to leave fish anywhere outside. We had a great time and will be back.

We stayed in a Santee State park cabin for 2 nights. Overall the cabin was nice. The beds were comfortable and the linens were nice. There was also a futon but the foam was thin and I don't know how comfortable it would have been to sleep on it.
The kitchen was well equipped. An added bonus was that the visitors center had a good selection of board games to borrow. Good for a quiet evening activity. Be aware that there are no phones in the cabins. Kind of weird since they have a binder with all sorts of emergencies numbers you can call off hours, but no phone. (I know most people travel with cell phone, but still) So since we were there in the off season, we felt a bit isolated.
