This is some of the finest Italian we’ve eaten in the States. The burrata salad special was simply delicious with the slight bitterness of the arugula, creamy burrata, hint of pepper jelly and light and lemony vinaigrette. The tomato basil soup hit the spot as did the diver scallop special, veal saltimbocca, and pasta bolognese. I don’t think one could go wrong with any item on the menu or special. The wine selection was good as well. This is definitely a great find. We will look forward to returning to Caffe Piccolo!

We ate here on a chilly Sunday night. Had it been warmer, we would have opted for dining outdoors by their fireplace. However, the indoor atmosphere was very nice as well, the service was excellent, as was the food, in our case, the scallops with mushroom risotto.

You can tell right out of the gate that this is a special place. The herb and cheese olive oil for the bread is outstanding. We asked for more bread. My tomato basil soup was spot on, rich and tasty. My wife had the scallop special. All she could say, over and over, was this was the best scallop dish she had ever had. It was made with a white wine sauce and spinach and mushroom ravioli. I had the veal scarpariello. This is the third time I have had it. Unbelievably good, with a veal demi glace, white wine sauce, pasta, and sausage. How many different tastes going on there?

Lexi, our server, was very attentive, brought to our attention a nice cab special at a reasonable price and simply made the evening better. Caffe Piccolo has a wonderful ambiance and is in the top two of our favorite Pawleys restaurants. You are foolish if you are in town and don't go to this restaurant!

Cafe Piccolo is a quaint and quietly tucked away in Pawley's Island just south of the Raw Bar. Keep an eye out or you'll miss it. Parking is shared with two other businesses.

The restaurant itself is small, with perhaps 10-12 tables inside, a bar for 8-10, and a half dozen tables outside. Clean and inviting, both the inside and out have appeal.

I went with my wife on a weekday when it was not busy. We were told there were no tables available inside and that we could sit outside or the bar. It was still too cool outside, so we chose the bar.

The menu is selective and brief, so we expected the dished to be well executed. I chose the mushroom ragu, and was pleased with the result. My wife was less impressed with her chicken franchaise, which she it was dominated by egg and oily.

Our service at the bar was of course shared with all the other demands of a barkeep, which we accepted, but were quite disappointed when the evenings specials were discussed with other patrons, but we had apparently been forgotten. Dang good specials too, it seems.

Other dishes we saw pass us also looked well prepared and tasty. I do believe they can cook an honest dish.

Upon departing an hour later we couldn't help but notice that the restaurant remained over half empty.

We will likely not return for awhile. For the price we paid (above average for the dishes served) there's good Italian to be had nearby without being unnecessarily relegated to a bar or neglected with service. Bummer.
