“Nice/different place to stay, especially for a family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 July 2011

This is a bit of an unusual place to stay. It's an upscale outdoor mixed use mall (Market Commons) that is fairly close to the airport. Above the stores and restaurants are condos and timeshares. The rooms then are just some of these condos that get rented out. We have three children so we got a 2-bedroom unit (king & queen beds) that has a sleeper sofa in the living room. The place was spacious and very nice inside. We were on a corner, with the living room and outside patio there right on the corner and a bedroom on each of the sides.

The area around the complex is very pleasant and safe. There is a huge athletic complex with fields, etc. across a lake. Other townhomes and condos are being put up in the surrounding area too, but it's fairly deserted around it. It's right on Farrow Parkway which has to be the road in Myrtle Beach with the least traffic (a big plus). It's actually quite quiet as MB goes, much more tame than the rowdy beach areas and route 17. This can either be a plus or minus for you -- it was a plus for us.

They give you a free pass to the SC state parks which is nice (good beaches). There is a Piggly Wiggly grocery store right there (our room was practically over it) which is great. On the downside, there is no pool and you aren't right on the beach. As others have mentioned, the blinds on the windows let a lot of light in. Didn't bother us, but it may to some people.

Not sure I would recommend the place for a couple getting away (depends upon what you like), but for a family, I felt it was a good fit and the price was reasonable.

I searched for weeks to find just the right place to stay for a long weekend with our friends in Myrtle Beach. The reviews for all the hotels/motels on the beach made them seem old - run down - and 'musty' I had gone back and forth between The Suites at The Market Common and The Litchfield Resort (much father south from Myrtle Beach) but I am VERY happy we went with The Suites at The Market Common!
Our flight arrived a little early - so we left our number with the front desk staff and they so kindly called us when our room was ready (around 2pm). The gave us a huge welcome packet and make sure to ask for a state park pass (they don't offer it but it is free to use for your entire stay)
Our room was HUGE - 2 bedroom (king bed in one room and a queen bed in the other) bathroom, big living room, kitchen and a washer and dryer. (Side note - they do NOT give you new towels/wash cloths/hand towels during your stay - even if you ask for them - they do sell small bottles of soap at the Piggly Wiggly you can grab for a few dollars)
The best part about staying at the Market Commons was it's proximity to everything. We were a 5 minute drive from Myrtle Beach State Park, 5 minutes to downtown Myrtle Beach and we were never stuck having to deal with the crazy Ocean Drive traffic on a daily basis. Shopping is literally right under your condo (40 different shops, restaurants, spa) and it is nice coming back to peace and quiet after being downtown Myrtle Beach.

I have stayed at this resort before without issue but this time, I stayed on a first floor unit ( but it is actually on the second floor) with a terrace. I was out on the terrace in the evening and palmetto bugs began marching across the terrace. I called the next morning to complain and spoke to the front desk (Joseph) and his response was " well those are everywhere" and he acted as if it was no big deal... he was also quite rude.... Stayed a lot of places.... never had to deal with marching bugs..... nice place to stay ordinarily... restaurants nearby, movie complexes .... and in the past, when it first opened, the management team was helpful and eager to assist but on this visit , it is clear that the management of this facility has clearly taken a downturn and the facility was not well run.... for example when I booked this trip I called Resort Quest.... could not get through and it was two days before they called back. I knew of the facility so I called hotels.com.... who by the way had better rates. I have traveled all over the world and I have never had bug marches at a resort..... might want to think of another place to stay... and if you stay here.... don't stay on the first level.....

Like others have stated, this is a very nice place off the main hotel row and for a good price. Also very nice to have the free SC state park pass (have to ask for it when you check in) to go to the state beach (nearest is about a 5-8 min car ride). The only big problem with this place that we has was the lack of dark curtains or anything else to block out the early sunrise as the rooms are equipped with cheap plastic vertical blinds. By the 2nd day we found some black felt at Walmart and then taped it to the windows to provide some darkness in the morning. One other note, there is no cleaning service (you need to wash towels, etc with the washer/dryer provided).

My daughter and I go to Myrtle Beach before Thanksgiving anually. This year we decided rather than stay at a hotel on the beach which I love, we would try Resort Quest at the Market Common. We had a studio unit ( Ratcliff) which was on the first floor which is really the second floor by Barnes and Nobles. This floor had a nice balcony where as the two floors above us did not. The weather was awesome while we were there. We were able to walk around shopping and walking to the resturants and then returning to our unit. Be sure to ask for a free pass to go to the state park if you are interested. You have to ask for this as it is not automatically given out. Normally this is $5 per person.
The only thing I did not like is there is no coffee in the room. You can go to the office for Starbucks coffee but I missed not being able to get up and have coffee ready. There is a coffee pot in the room but no coffee. There is also a small washer and dryer. The view was great and we loved the location for something different.
