“Nice location, somewhat disappointing maintenance.”

First of all, reviews of "Port O' Call" are somewhat deceptive. Port O' Call is a five-building condo complex in the Wild Dunes Resort, a private, gated resort on the north end of Isle of Palms. Each building has three floors (with elevators). Most of the units do not have a direct ocean view. In evaluating these vacation rentals, one needs to know the unit number, each of which is privately owned, and many of which are managed by different rental companies. The buildings are labeled A-E. Our unit was B-202, one of the better views. My wife and I rented this condo for four weeks in February-March, 2015, through Wyndham Vacation Rentals. We were generally satisfied with the rental, but with some disappointment. On the positive side, Isle of Palms, a barrier island near Charleston, is a good vacation choice. This particular condo, B-202, is a second floor, one bedroom, one bathroom condo, in building B of a 5-building complex in the Wild Dunes private, gated resort community, the complex called Port O' Call. Our unit had one of the better views of the beach and oceanfront, with other buildings in the complex having lesser or no view of the ocean. The condo has a screened balcony overlooking the ocean. The building complex has an elevator. The condo is nicely decorated, but maintenance is somewhat disappointing. For example, although the rental fee reflects an ocean view, three of the four glass doors facing the ocean are frosted over because of broken seals of the double-pane construction. Additionally, several of the windows are frosted over because of broken seals. The unit has a land line phone, an AT&T mobile phone, which allows local calls, toll-free long distance calls, and incoming calls. However, we had to ask Wyndham Vacation Rentals for the phone number to provide family and friends after the fact. Additionally, the receiver battery is dying, and although I reported such early in our stay, it was not replaced during the four weeks we were here. A word of warning, cellular phone service, at least through the AT&T network, on this part of Isle of Palms is virtually non-existent. Other annoying examples of lack of maintenance included broken latches on two of the four pocket doors, as well as a slowly draining wash basin in the bathroom. We were also disappointed by Wyndham Vacation Rentals lackadaisical approach to mail. It took us almost two weeks to arrange to receive U.S. Postal mail, because Wyndham failed to inform us that, although there is a cluster of mailboxes outside the building, they do not have a key to the mailbox to provide the renter, and further, they were not entirely sure what the mailing address really is. We finally ended up having mail sent to General Delivery, Isle of Palms, SC 29451. Home delivery of the Wall Street Journal required several calls to the WSJ because the address of the unit, 202 Palmetto Drive, turned out to be insufficient for the delivery person to find the unit. Port O' Call B-202 finally did the trick. Wyndham Vacation Rentals should have known better.
