“Loved the Concierge!!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2012

During my second stay at this hotel (and it's a 17 hour drive away so we must like it!), the concierge was more than helpful with arranging transportation, recommending restaurants and outings as well as other wonderful tips. Her breakfast spots were a lot of fun!! She gave a great deal of time and her interest in your well being and enjoyment of Charleston was wonderfully genuine. I'd go back just because I know how helpful she'd be!!!!

The policy of charging a different rate (more - way more) after you've been in the hotel for 4 nights seems incompatible with a making you want to return. This needs to change, I think and is the only reason I didn't give the hotel an excellent rating.

Room Tip: Rooms over the centre outdoor restaurant are quiet and brighter.

First time staying here for me and my wife. There for a couple days. Our room had two double beds and was very comfortable. I'd suggest a king bed, if available, since the double beds were not as wide as we would have liked. The bathroom was a bit small but was clean and had plenty of towels. The front desk staff were professional, but not very friendly. The restaurant, front entrance, and custodial staff were all much more friendly than the front desk staff. The Mills House Hotel has very impressive architecture inside and out along with a very nice courtyard with relaxing fountain, where we enjoyed breakfast. We only ate one meal at the hotel restaurant, and that was breakfast (about $13 pp). It was served freshly hot and the waiter gave very good service. The best part of the Mills House experience though for us is the proximity to everything. It is within walking distance of restaurants, shops, the market area, even the battery. We really enjoyed being able to walk to so many places right near the hotel. We rarely stay in the historic district because of the hotel prices (regular rate was 179.00/night at Mills House), but because of a discount it was affordable. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to others. FYI, the cost for parking, there is a garage right behind the hotel, is $20 a day.

Room Tip: If staying with spouse, suggest getting a king bed, if available. Double beds a bit narrow for two.

I've stayed at this hotels on my last 3 visits to charleston and find it to be most ideal when visiting the city.

The location is right in the heart of downtown so you can easily walk everywhere. I've found the service to be excellent & rooms to be clean. Rooms are a little smaller because it's such an old hotel but there is plenty of room for 2 people. The terrace by the pool is also white nice.

Only cons are that there is limited parking in the area so you will likely have to valet. Also the gym facilities are sub par. I'd recommend going outside to run, etc.

Would certainly stay again.

This is a special hotel, very well located in the heart of the Historic District. The hotel has a very nice courtyard restaurant and a charming ambience. The staff is well trained and helpful. It is not inexpensive but we felt like we got our moneys worth.

We were greeted very warmly from the bellboys at the front door. That same warmness did not follow us to the front desk. After checking in we had some questions and went to the front desk. As we stood there waiting for the person to get off of the phone, the bellboy saved the day again. He saw we were waiting and came over to see if he could help. Little things I know but it is a 4 star hotel. I expect more.
