“Best place to stay in downtown!”
Reviewed 1 May 2012

I'm in my third trimester and went for a family 'girls weekend' to Charleston in late April. We were taken care of from the moment we arrived to the time the latch shut on the trunk as we were leaving. The bellmen were friendly and gave great recommendations. Wilbur cooks the most perfect fried eggs you could imagine. All the wait staff were great when we had breakfast both mornings - I have a food allergy and they made sure I was taken care of and had plenty of options. In fact Wilbur checked again on Sunday morning about the buffet line because there were different people preparing the food that morning than the previous one. He spotted me arriving and quickly came over to tell me he would check for me. That is service! You won't find better service or a more comfortable stay than at the Renaissance! We will be back!

Such a great location in old town Charleston! Just a short walk to all the great restaurants, shopping, tourist attractions, nightspots! Use the human powered rickshaws to get to dinner, tourist sites.... the bellman/front desk can help you with that!
Really enjoyed the outdoor lounge area to sit, sip on a cool drink and read the paper.... relaxing!

I think the best thing about this hotel is it's location. It's about 2 blocks from the Market Place, a block from shopping on King Street, under a mile to the visitor's center. We were able to walk everywhere. Our room was a little small, but had a very small balcony with 2 chairs on it. The bed was comfy and the shower head was wonderful. The weather was a little cold for the pool, but it looked like they had some great lounge chairs.
I agree with one review I read that the front desk staff could be more informative on check-in. She gave us a pass to park our car, but I had to ask where the garage was, where the elevators were, etc. Henry the bartender was the most informative and friendly person there. Make sure you talk to him about good restaurants in the area.
I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I arrived at midnight. Our taxi driver brought the bags in the door and we paid him. The gentleman on duty saw our names our the tags. The first words out of his mouth were:

"Welcome Mr. and Mrs. Ellebud!" And this was the beginning of our stay. We were given our room keys and a stack of information about where to go, what to see, and how to get around. What a pleasure!

The room, on the 5th floor, had no view. And here is where I find a bit of fault. The curtains were torn. Yes, really torn with a big hole in the middle. The rest of the room was fine.

Breakfast was quite mediocre. BUT the gentleman running the room was wonderful. On the second morning he remembered us and knew our preferences.

The location was wonderful. Every employee is a credit to the Renaissance. Although we might eat breakfast elsewhere we would stay there again in a heartbeat.
