“Beaufort, SC & Savannah, GA”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

Our bicycle trip to Beaufort and Savannah with Alex and Karen of Charleston Bicycle Tours was excellent in so many ways. We have toured with them before and they tailored the rides to our likes and the dining to our tastes. We had not been to Beaufort before and found the city and surrounding islands quaint and charming. We have been to Savannah many times but saw the city in a way quite different from previous trips. In the two days, we learned more about the history and charm of the city than we thought possible. A definite plus is dining in restaurants that the Grahams select for the quality of both the food and the service and the avoidance of the highly popular tourist establishments. All in all it was a delightful tour - as have been the other two.

“A Perfect Vacation!”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

This is a highly recommended tour for anyone who enjoys an active, adventurous, memorable vacation. Alex and Karen paid great attention to the very fine details of the journey. They carefully planned the entire trip, tailored it specifically to meet our expectations, and made it a fantastic, delightful family-friendly vacation. We traveled with our three teen-age daughters during spring break, along with a very lovely family with two adorable sons. The trip was planned so well, that all the teen-angers and adults as one had a great time. We enjoyed a breathtaking walking tour along the Charleston Battery listening to Alex tell the fascinating tales of historic, beautiful, colorful Charleston. We traveled by boat to the seemingly deserted Morris Island, where the beautiful beach was pure, flawless, and untouched. There Alex cooked for us the “Frogmore Stew” – a palatable tasty low country boil prepared and served up the way locals do it, at the time of sunset to the delight of us all. We rode our bikes the next day over the Charleston bridge (!) to Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island and Ft. Moultrie. The bike ride was designed for all of us – with options to prolong, shorten, or to take breaks as needed. Karen followed us everywhere, with her special mother-like touch, providing us with healthy delicious treats and cool water along the road. We kayaked at Shem Creek to Crab Bank, a bird sanctuary for Brown Pelicans. We were escorted by an extremely knowledgeable guide, hand-picked by Alex, who educated us about wild life in the creeks and marshes. We rode our bikes on the beautiful Wadmalaw Island past scenery old farms, plantations, and the Village of Rockville. The girls enjoyed the visit at the Charleston Tea Plantation, home of the only tea grown in America. We all enjoyed there an outside picnic carefully prepared by Alex and Karen, including a delicious blueberry secret recipe pie, made by Alex. All meals were carefully planned, with superb food served at fine restaurants. The ambiance and atmosphere was perfect. All of us had a great time. Thank you Alex, Karen, and Jimmy, for the joyful memories!

“Far Exceeded our High Expectations”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

Where is the six-star rating option when you need it? Without a doubt, our trip with Charleston Bicycle Tours was the best vacation choice we’ve made in years.

The Grahams clearly put a lot of thought into each individual itinerary and there wasn’t a thing that we would have changed during our three days with them. They are knowledgeable, funny, flexible and such great cooks that I think they deserve a special spot in the Trip Advisor restaurant category as well.

We travelled with our pre-teen sons and before we arrived we wondered how they would hold up with the amount of biking we planned to do each day. It turned out that this wasn’t even remotely an issue – the Grahams planned a very kid-friendly itinerary that included well placed rest stops (with chilled clementines – yum), break activities and storybook-worthy conversations about the Civil War, colonial history and the local flora & fauna.

The kids’ list of trip highlights is actually too long to include in this review, but their tops picks were our ‘frogmore stew’ sunset dinner on the beach of an uninhabited island, our bike ride over the Ravenel Bridge, and the kayak trip to the bird sanctuary. I agree – they were all seamlessly fabulous.

Big heaps of appreciation to the Grahams and to the fun family who traveled alongside us on the trip – we hope to see you all again!

“35th wedding anniversary bike tour”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

Our anniversary trip with Alex and Karen of Charleston Bike Tours could not have been surpassed by a week at a resort! We absolutely loved this trip. Our hosts were expertly knowledgeable in the historical tidbits that surround this charming city and exuded that southern kindness that was the hallmark of the miles and miles of riding we had not done in years! It was so memorable that we have encouraged our travel agent to recommend them to prospective adventurers who need a true experience and not just a vacation. Thanks again Grahams! Suzanne & Ed B.

“Second time around”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

On our second trip with Charleston Bicycle tours, we moved south from Charleston and explored Beaufort SC and Savannah GA. Both are great bicycling towns, and Alex and Karen continue to exhibit their talent for finding beautiful and lightly trafficked roads to bike on, interesting sights to see along the way and delicious restaurants. This trip was as much fun as their Charleston trip, and we heartily recommend it.
