Nice multi-block coveted walk. Baskets being woven and sold, jewelry, leather, knick-knacks, cook books, make the full walk. Enjoy the horse drawn carriages as the horses clomp by. A truely international experience. Near the peninsula grill hit the sail loft for brighton, graham, Tommy Bahama and other high end haute couturiers. Tritsel through the French Market about half way through.

I would not recommend anyone to go to this area. There was a person on the street yelling vulgar racists comments at any and all people and the city of Charleston refuses to do anything about it. Some of the language in any other city would have gotten that man arrested. I was totally appalled by the yelling and by the fact that nothing has ever been done.

Shame on you City of Charleston officials. I will not be bringing my family back to that area.

Over crowded to the point of not being able to look. Not junky but too commercialized for me (less TY beanie babies, more arts and crafts). Parking near by was ridiculously overpriced! Generally clean, well maintained and seems safe.

It was not too busy when I visited the Market so the experience was very good. This is not a cheap looking market place, very well laid out and display of goods here. They have leathers, crafts of all kinds, some clothing. It only took an hour and half to walk through from end and back. Market is under a roof so could be a good place to visit even if weather is adverse. Parking is available in a variety of areas around the Market.

As a resident of Chaeston it's normally a place to be avoided because of crowds. But it's also a good place to find a mix of local artists works. There are vendors that sell nothing but tourist stuff. But there are also local artisans with good quality goods.

It's fun to visit with a person that's never been before.

I would recommend it for folks who have never been to Charleston or who have never made it to the Market before.

Very nice to embrace the local culture and arts. A number of local artisans sharing their hand crafted wares combined with many t-shirt and typical flea market vendors. The sour note of it all was the extremely overpriced parking fees. In my eyes these fees didn't encourage visitors to spend much time within the complex.
More surprising is that very few food or lunch offerings within the complex....So don't go there expecting to pick up baked goods, a delicious sandwich or salad.
Saw a few bistros and a deli withing a short walk.

Always a favorite when we visit to hit market street square for shopping. It’s full of arts and crafts and food. Tight squeeze with all the people so be prepared.

The market square is situated in the heart of the French district and forms for an interesting place to explore especially as the sun is beating down. The square is dotted with cafes and restaurants on either side and has shops and more food options in between as well. There's a lot of local craft on offer as well as regular souvenirs.

Do visit for an hour or two to mix in the historic tourism with a bit of shopping.

We visit Charleston every year and always make at least one trip through the market. Many fabulous handmade items and local artisans displaying their work. Most are very eager to talk about their work. Some expensive and some less.

Great collection of local and regional merchandise and treats. Don't fear the tourist blues and quite a few of the shops will ship items back to your home to avoid the travel concerns of large items.
