My hubby and I stayed at the Bakrsdale House last week and had a wonderful time. The location was great for getting around and sight-seeing. We had Room 3 which was spacious and very nice. Everyone there attended to our needs - even offering umbrellas when it was raining on our way out. We would definitely stay again.

We came to Charleston on Tuesday, a day early for our cruise, so that we could enjoy a day in the city. It is worth noting that the Barksdale House is properly classified as an Inn. It has more charm than a hotel, but is not as homey as a classic B&B.
We stayed in the carriage house behind the main house. Room 13 was spacious, clean, and elegantly decorated. It had enough closet space to move in for a couple of weeks. I found the bed to be a bit soft, but that is a matter of preference. Once I got all the windows shut all the way, it was quite quiet.
The bathroom was clean and modern. Whoever converted the carriage house to an inn did a very good job providing modern conveniences while maintaining the character of the building.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast on the lovely patio was very nice. It is a quality continental breakfast, another way this is more of an inn than a B&B where one might expect something more elaborate.
While this part of George St. is not very picturesque, it is a very good location. The Barksdale House is practically adjacent to the College of Charleston campus so, when college is in session the neighborhood has a very college-town feel to it, and felt very safe. If you are staying here, be sure to check the College of Charleston event calendar. We were able to attend an excellent concert at the Sottile Theater, which is only a block away. The main tourist sites are about a 0.7 miles away, and the Visitor's Center/Charleston Museum are a pretty easy walk. King St. is one block away, and this part of King is lined with a variety of small restaurants with excellent food. Also, at King St. you can catch a free trolley bus that will take you down King to Broad, to Bay, to Market, to Meeting, and back over to King, a route that has an amazing variety of shopping, sights, sites, and activities. You can park your car at the Barksdale for free, a big plus in Charleston, and never move it for the duration of your stay.
We chose the Barksdale House Inn for a pleasant place to stay, with a preference for more of an Inn/B&B experience. I would not hesitate to recommend as an excellent value in this category, and we will certainly keep it in mind for future visits to Charleston.

Found a groupon and decided to stay in the b&b for a concert in Charleston. It was a quaint but spacious room...a bit on the pricey side. The bathroom needed some updating but all in all it was nice for our first time staying in a b&b.

I thought this inn was a great value and a very pleasant place to stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The decor of the Inn and it's rooms was lovely. My room was well appointed with all the items that I would need for a comfortable stay and it was clean and very quiet. Breakfast was quite nice and it was a pleasure to be able to eat outside in the little garden area. The fountain was flowing and the smell of jasmine was in the air. Location wise, it's perfect; right down town near all of the shops and restaurants. Parking behind the inn made the stay complete.

This B&B is well-located in the historic district of Charleston, with parking included in what was a competitve rate for inns of this kind. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff were friendly and the breakfast contained some fresh fruit which could be enjoyed on the back verandah. We would be happy to return to this wonderful introduction to the South.
