Let me get this out of the way... I ordered a Horchata mixed drink with was said to have contained a liquor called "rum". It appears that the rum just didn't seem to make it into my drink. I was charged $9 and ended up with a glass containing 99.9999% ice. $7 for a Bells Amber? Just a little steep there.

Service on the front end and line was great. Ribs and brisket were super. I would 100% recommend you stop by. It was worth the trip.

Is there a wait? Yes. But its worth every minute. We arrived on a Saturday morning and waited 45 minutes. We enjoyed a cool drink by the bar while standing in line. Once you are in the door, you order your items from the person who cuts the meat for you. We ordered a bit of everything. The brisket melted in our mouths, the beef rib was dinosaur size and fell off the bone; the pulled pork and hot sausage were just as great. The green chili corn pudding was like dessert; loved the potato salad. I wasn't a fan of the bean salad, but the pickled red onions could be served in gallon size and I'd eat every one of them! I agree with other reviews, the hype is real, the wait is worth it, there are not enough words to describe the magic they work here at Lewis Barbeque. If you are a smoked meat fan, just go. All Hail the King indeed.

this restaurant just opened up 2 days before we went,so all the kinks have not been worked out. it was a little chaotic. They ran out of a lot of food and it was not even the 3rd of July2016. It was not in the best neighborhood a little scary,The parking is tight. The whole concept is different order by the pound, really no waitress service. however i guess with this set up you donot need them even for your drinks you get your own even your refills.so if you are lazy or just donot like to walk around in a restaruant then this is not the place for you.

Absolutely amazing brisket, yes the hype is real. There aren't enough words to describe it, you have to try it for yourself.

From the first bite, the brisket melts in your mouth and the flavor is out of this world. Their pulled pork is great too, but the brisket speaks all on its own.

Yes, long line and a little pricey.....but well worth a treat. It takes significant time and lots of trial and error before near perfection emerges....you're paying for this experience, expertise, and time. John Lewis is my new best friend. Thank you for starting the barbecue renaissance in Charleston.

This restaurant just opened 3 days ago, and we'll definitely be coming back. If you live in the Charleston area or will be visiting, make sure to go. For a Charleston restaurant, there is a lot of parking. It's a counter-style restaurant, where you walk up to the counter and order what you want . . . and watch it carved as you wait! Four of us decided to try it out today for lunch. It was crowded, and, while there was a line, it moved quickly. Wait staff offered (non-alcoholic) drinks as we waited in line, which was a nice touch. We decided to try almost everything, by sharing: beef brisket, turkey, sausage (a little spicy, but not too) and pork ribs. Everything was AMAZING! Once you get your meat carved, you move along to the "sides" area of the counter -- we had corn pudding (yum!) and potato salad (made with buttermilk, so a little tangy, different taste). Pickles and onions come with your choice. Drinks, silverware (plastic), napkins and various barbecue sauces are serve yourself. Once you seat yourself (lots of tables, both inside and out), wait staff does stop by to refill drinks and/or get you additional items. SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! Two types of "home spun" ice cream were on the menu: peach cobbler and bourbon pecan pie. We were going to order the peach, but our waitress said the bourbon pecan pie was her favorite -- and she was right!! The peach was good, but the pecan pie ice cream was unbelievably good, served with candied pecans throughout and on top. Restaurant would be a great place for families, too -- imagine pets might be allowed outside as with most Charleston restaurants -- but call ahead to make sure, as I didn't ask. (Full bar service as well, for those who want a drink.) My husband and I ordered 1/2 pound of beef brisket, a 3-meat sampler, 2 sides (corn pudding and potato salad) and two iced teas -- $22, which I thought was a great price for the amount of food we received.
