Owner description: The Foundation welcomes visitors to explore daily life in one of Charleston's most exquisite dwellings. Located in Downtown Charleston near High Battery, the Nathaniel Russell House Museum, 51 Meeting Street, is widely recognized as one of America's most important neoclassical dwellings. Historic Charleston Foundation purchased the National Historic Landmark in 1955, and the house served as the Foundation's headquarters for 37 years. Today, the interiors are restored to their original 1808 grandeur and surrounded by formal gardens.

the tour guides were very informative, we got the 2 for $16 tickets and it was nice to see a restored mansion and a preserved mansion.

“Weren't able to see most of the house.”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

The tour guide was very knowledgeable, but almost talked too much and we weren't able to go to the third floor at all.

“Beautiful restored home”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

This home is beautiful and the history behind it is compelling. We enjoyed our tour guide alot. $16 will get you a combo ticket to both this house and the Aiken-Rhett house--this one restored, the latter preserved.

“Nice house tour”
Reviewed 3 June 2012

We toured two houses in Charleston and this was by far the most interesting and authentic of the two. The gardens are an oasis in the busy city and our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. we recommend this tour as a good example of the architecture in Charleston.

“Beautiful Historic Home”
Reviewed 2 June 2012

A friend from out of town and I visited this house museum. The house has many antiquities and an interesting history. The floating staircase is very impressive. The grounds and flora are very lovely as is the gift shop. The docent was very knowledgeable and it was evident that he really loved the house, history and Charleston. I would take an out of town guest again.
