Owner description: The Foundation welcomes visitors to explore daily life in one of Charleston's most exquisite dwellings. Located in Downtown Charleston near High Battery, the Nathaniel Russell House Museum, 51 Meeting Street, is widely recognized as one of America's most important neoclassical dwellings. Historic Charleston Foundation purchased the National Historic Landmark in 1955, and the house served as the Foundation's headquarters for 37 years. Today, the interiors are restored to their original 1808 grandeur and surrounded by formal gardens.

Only visited the grounds to see the gardens. It's all a real picture!

We learned much about the architecture, the rooms of the house, the history of the owners, and more about life in the Charleston of that era. Very good tour.

Our guide Ken was especially knowledgeable (and patient with the odd stupid question) while paced in his delivery enabling those new to the Southern accent appreciate all that was said. This helped all of us enjoy the remarkable house to its utmost.

Our docent on our tour was very adamant about pointing out that everything in the Russell House was original or restored. No replicas! Point taken. Nice look back in history. Nice visit.
