First, I want to clear up a misconception I had before our visit. The Beaufort Inn is not a B&B. It is a Boutique Hotel which provides its guests with vouchers for breakfast (up to $10) at a choice of three popular venues. The main building is a beautifully restored 3-story private home of the late 19th century. Its interior and exterior are very ornate and typical of the era. The property is situated one block from the main street downtown, and two blocks from the waterfront which, unfortunately, is not visible from the hotel. It covers an entire city block, with well-kept garden areas. Our room was smaller than in a modern hotel, but well laid out with a full bath and direct access to a large second story veranda shared with the adjacent room. In addition to the main house, there were several smaller 1-story cottages, some apparently restorations and some of the multi-story buildings newer reproductions. Overall, our two-day stay was enjoyable, but not perfect. There were two things that contributed to my 4-star instead of 5-star rating: (1) the price was expensive, on the order of a stay at Old Edwards Inn, but it was during the annual Shrimp Festival in Beaufort, so could be expected to be higher than at other times; and (2) the central a/c was too noisy at night. When it cycled on there was a muffled "boom" somewhere below, followed by a continuous low level rumbling like a truck idling next door. Parking was conveniently located in a gated lot across the street, a big savings since most street parking in the surrounding area was metered, and even that hard to come by with all the visitors in town for the weekend festivities.
