I've stayed here a few times for work, but this last time was disappointing. The hotel is nice and in a great location. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are fairly small and not laid out very well, but still have enough space for bags and to move around. The bathroom is nice, but the shower didn't have very good water pressure. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioner worked OK. The TV was nice with a decent amount of channels, but was very slow to change channels. The Internet was VERY disappointing. They charge for internet and the speeds were extremely slow. I ended up having to use my Verizon jetpack to get online. It is ridiculous that hotels still charge for internet. Overall this is a nice hotel, but if you are staying here for business, I would reconsider just for the internet alone.

Thank you very much for your comments on TripAdvisor. Feedback is a gift!! I am sorry that your overall experience hasn't been excellent specifically due to the internet and the television. I have some good news. The hotel started to upgrade its internet service with the installation of new access points. This should correct the spotty internet reception. The project should be completed by October 1st. If you continue to experience a problem, please leave me a voice mail at extension 2043. Also, we start at new casegood redo in the first quarter of 2013 and the HD installation was completed last week. Lots happening at the Renaissance Pittsburgh and I hope that you will accept our apologies for the past experiences and allow us to begin to make amends by giving us another chance. If you are interested, please contact me at 412-562-1200. Barbara McMahon, GM

I have to travel to Pittsburgh a lot for work. The Renaissance is convenient to the downtown area and easily walkable to PNC Park, just across the Roberto Clemente Bridge. Views are very nice from some of the rooms. Service is usually very good. Fitness center is pretty well equipped. Downsides are hit-or-miss internet service and sometimes hard to close curtains in the room due to the very tall windows. I'm short and you really have to give the curtain rods a good yank sometimes to get them to move.

This is a wonderful hotel with great potential. Simple improvements can make it great. For example, the internet access was poor...slow response on wifi and even with the wired cable. With the local Carnegie-Mellon University being one of the technology world's great schools, you would think the hotel would be well-connected! I agree with C1S2B3's assessment on the electrical outlets being few and lack of a hotel guide yet disagree with some of his/her other assessments. I found the staff to be very pleasant and when we asked for more towels, we got them right away. The linen and towels were very good and the beds were exceptional. Access to the facility was easy for out-of-towners armed with a GPS and the baseball park was an easy walk across the bridge. Heinz Hall and the Civic Light Opera were 100 yards away and shopping was an easy walk. Jogging along the river front path had easy access and the fitness area was easily accessible. I brought my wife on this business trip and she loved this hotel. We'll be back!

Room tip: Ask for a room facing the river and ballparks

This is a beautiful hotel in an historic building in a good location downtown. Lives up to Marriott property standards. Very comfortable bed in a large room. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and our meals were good. Our one night stay was a bit pricey given that the meals, parking charges and assorted taxes added up quickly. One observation: I stayed last week at the Phoenix Renaissance and, unfortunately, the staff in Pittsburgh doesn't come close to the attention and friendliness of the Phoenix staff. I suggest the Pittsburgh manager ask his counterpart in Phoenix how they have such great staff.
