Prince Gallitzin State Park's Crooked Run Camp Ground is really the best in the area. We have been camping for almost 15 years. We have tried many other places for a "new experience" but always end up returning to PGSP, as locals we refer to it as Glendale. We only live 25-30 min from the campground, but it's like entering another world. Turn off your phones bc they scarcely work; although there is now wifi for $7 / day. It's not great but if you need to reply to a few work emails it will do the job. Texting family elsewhere on the state park grounds is iffy depending on your carrier. Bathroom facilities are clean and plentiful. Even when the park is crowded everything is cleaned daily and supplied adequately. Showers have warm water, and there are water pumps elsewhere in the park. Although we do usually pack drinking water, I've never seen a problem with the spigot pumps - other reviews said not to drink it, but I think they're full of mud! The trails are awesome. We always book a pet friendly spot in RedOak. There are several pet-access areas. If you are a first timer, ask for a map at check in, otherwise, it's easy to take the wrong trail. The beach is always hopping and my daughters rented kayaks. The water is clean & clear. There are many beautiful and peaceful places to sit and appreciate the day. Each loop seems to have something ... giant sandbox, play area, beach, horseshoe pits, amphitheater, bike riding loop... its fantastic. Pic your preference. We have never had any problems with the staff or hosts - PGSP does a great job.

SOOOOO many campsites, but they are not on top of each other; plenty of shade and privacy; plenty of wood available. They also sell and deliver 1/2 ($15) and full loads ($30) of split wood. We had about a 200ft walk to the bathhouse, which was clean and well lit at night. There is a very nice trail that goes all around the campground, making it easy to get to the beach. The camp store had just about everything you would need and is open on weekends until 8 PM. We had to buy an air mattress and ice cream. :) You can rent boats for the lake.

we rented a cabin for a couple of nights and hiked by the lake and enjoyed the beauty of this park. I am impressed with the PA state park system. the modern cabins are a great value, clean and nice. Only about 50$ a night. We live in Virginia, the cabins in the Virginia state parks are more then double that, and have only 1 bed and 1 bedroom. PA parks two bedrooms and 5 beds total. We had to make a slight change to our reservation and the staff at the park were very helpful.

This state park is about 30 minutes from where we live. It is a great local park. The area is very clean. There are camping areas - nice with showers and restrooms. I have never camped overnight there but have visited friends for "day camping". You can rent several types of water crafts. There is fishing and boating. Many places to picnic. They have cabins available to rent - along the lake. I have never stayed but they look nice. There are I think 3 swimming areas and snack bar area. Near the camping area there is a small store. There are many places to hike and you can go up the water tower. For us, it's a great nature stop, just to get outside for the day.

They have a lot of spots that are mostly wooded. The lake and beach area are really nice. My only complaint would be with so many spots, it can seem crowded.
