“Perfect for 2!”

This converted barn is only a minutes walk from the beach. When the tide is out the beach is perfect for an early morning stroll with virtually no one else around.
Portholland is a tiny hamlet with only a handful of other dwellings and accessed down a very narrow single track lane. We only had to dodge the pheasants, but in the height of the summer I imagine the increase in traffic could make a trip to a shop or pub quite hairy at times, reversing to find a passing place!
There were only 2 of us, so we found there was plenty of room. It would be a squeeze for 5 adults as there were only places to sit for 4 on the sofas and 4 seats around the dining table which would be a squash to fit!
We chose to sleep in the twin room that had a television as the double room did not.
The kitchen was adequate for our needs, and the bathroom needs an upgrade, and I know this is on the 'to do' list of the owners.
When we arrived we had fresh flowers on the table and a bottle of fizz in the fridge which was very welcome!

“Sun sea sand peace & tranquility right on your doorstep”
Reviewed 18 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had a fab week in this very beautiful place!!
We were very lucky indeed to wake up to blue skies & sunshine nearly every day !
The converted hayloft is very comfy & cosy & set in one of the most picturesque & peaceful places! Milo & Max our 2 Min Schnauzers just loved the lovely (dog friendly) sandy beach just yards from our doorstep!! Perfect for those early morning & evening strolls!
Pond Meadow is in the most gorgeous setting surrounded by nothing but green fields, half a dozen houses & the sea!! & with ducks on the pond & fresh eggs from the hens & all the other lovely "finishing touches" for our stay .....it really was a blissful week away
Thanks again Jo Kris & family & the delightful Merv! Woof

“Delightfully remote”

Although we've had about thirty trips to Cornwall over the last thirty-five years we hadn't realised that there was somewhere so remote on the south coast: we didn't mind waiting for flocks of sheep and dodging the pheasants, but I imagine there will be quite a lot of reversing to let other cars pass in high summer on the narrow roads. The comparative lack of people did mean an empty beach and long walks along the coast path without meeting anyone else - on a twelve mile round trip we didn't see another soul until we were nearly at Mevagissey and the views were excellent. Although the shops are a few miles away Tesco deliver to the door. We didn't bring any food with us, but with the milk and tea provided and the supermarket delivery turning up only half an hour after we did, it all worked very well.
The owners are friendly and helpful; the beach is very close and the house is well equipped. Bedrooms are very spacious with enough cupboard space for the most laden down traveller. Although there are five beds, five would be a quite a squeeze found the kitchen table; and the third bedroom does mean that the sitting area is cramped, with the TV high up to one side. If the weather is good enough to be outside, this wouldn't matter, as there is a table/BBQ etc outside in the garden, but it was the one weakness in an otherwise excellent holiday place.

“We have had a great holiday !”
Reviewed 9 September 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We have stayed for two weeks at Portholland and we have had such a good time. Of course the wheather was great and we could nearly stay the whole time at the beach (when the tide wasn't high).
To be in the middle of nowhere was the best thing what could happen in the holiday. My husband didn't reach any mails of his boss as his mobile didn't work at Portholland. In the house is wifi so that we were able to have a look for our private mails and some news back from Germany.
All in all we are really thinking of coming back. It was the best holiday we have ever had. The children are playing the whole time to drive to England again. ;)
