We booked a room at the Lamb at very short notice on the recommendation of a local and took the only remaining (family) room. Although the beds were freshly laundered the decor was very tired and the light shades showed the underlying state of repair, being filthy. The weather was very warm but the radiator was locked on full power and it was impossible to be comfortable. The young man behind the bar had no idea how to help and said the manager had just said to ‘say sorry’. We were unable to stay long in the room so walked the streets of Marlborough for a while before returning and being told that the best solution was a large cardboard box to prop the window open through the night, as the window would not stay open on its own!
In the morning the breakfast was very nice and the service good. However when we checked out and paid, no-one asked how our stay had been (the first time in a very long life of hotel visits that I have not been asked the question) so the matter of the impossible heat was left unspoken and the full amount charged.
Needless to say I left feeling undervalued as a customer and very upset, even angry.
We will certainly not be staying there again.

My groups have enjoyed two superb two course lunches at the Lamb.

The food was excellent on both occasions - generous portions, hot, delicious and very well presented. Staff and owners were very friendly and did everything possible to make both lunches a resounding success. And all at a very reasonable price - the Lamb is excellent value for money and a very well-run establishment for a group or individual lunch!

This was a last minute booking for our wedding anniversary, 2 humans and 2 dogs (they go everywhere with us), as not many places allow 2 dogs, and have direct access to the outside. The dogs are unable to use a human toilet, you see, so being able to get outside quietly with them if they need a night time wee is essential!
First impressions are of a lovely exterior - very old! Parked in the street (arrive after 4 for free parking until 10am) Step inside, and its a traditional pub - darts on the telly, good selection of beers and spirits.
The locals were lined up right across the bar, a polite excuse me, and I was in! Check in seamless and shown to Stable 3, upstairs in the courtyard, but private entry. Perfect!
Slight disappointments: No one was on site to cook dinner - this could have been mentioned on FB maybe? Or my email could have been answered. Anyway, a quick phone call to another bar, and dinner was booked elsewhere. Also, maybe a dog bowl in the room?
The beds are comfy, lovely pillows, a good nights sleep!
Breakfast was awesome - tasty, and naturally gluten free - another must for us, or its a hospital visit, which puts a damper on the evening somewhat....
If you like a traditional pub, with friendly staff, and a relaxed stay, then go here.

On a busy Friday night the staff were really friendly and placed our large group in the converted stable. As always the food was very good quality and the beer well kept and all at very reasonable prices. Thanks for a friendly and great night.

I think our lunch at the Lamb Inn today was the best Sunday pub lunch I’ve ever had. The pub is located down a side street and not on the town’s impressive High Street, and has a rather average interior. However, our companions had eaten there before and been pleased with their meal so we went in with our sights set on eating well, and we were not disappointed.

We were warmly welcomed and the service was friendly and good from start to finish. We all enjoyed our meals which were generous helpings of delicious food. I can thoroughly recommend the roast beef Sunday dinner. The beef was really tasty and beautifully tender, and the vegetables had been prepared, cooked and served with care - and lots of them! The meal looked good too - colourful and appetising. When the staff (were they the owners?) enquired if we were enjoying the meal, they sounded sincerely interested and pleased; a welcome change from the more usual routine enquiry.

All in all an excellent place for Sunday lunch. I cannot comment on the Hotel side of things.
