We had a wonderful two-day stay at The Sanctuary. Rebecca drove us to Silbury Hill to start our Ridgeway walk and kindly allowed us to leave our car at their home for the week, at a small cost. There is a bus service from Swindon to Ogbourne St George for the return journey at the end of the trip, even on a Sunday. The accommodation was perfect, clean and comfortable, with a wonderful breakfast served in a bright conservatory. We loved watching the antics of the chickens and eating their wonderful eggs! The welcome with tea and cake and the availability of a packed lunch restored the energy levels of two very tired walkers. We highly recommend staying at The Sanctuary! Thank you for everything.

Had a great 2-night stay at The Sanctuary. Room was large, warm, clean, comfortable, large bathroom, cupboards, plenty of hot water, wifi, and tea and coffee facilities.
Rebecca is a great host providing tea and biscuits on arrival and use of their lounge and fridge. Gorgeous fresh breakfast looking out on the free-ranging chickens whose fresh eggs you are eating! Rebecca is very helpful with recommendations of eating places and local walks. Highly recommended and good value. Will certainly return.

Six of us plus two dogs stayed here after our first day walking the Ridgeway. It is very convenient for this wonderful trail and Rebecca is a great hostess. Tea and a delicious cake on arrival, clean and comfortable rooms and enough hot water for us all. We were made to feel very welcome and breakfast was five star. Lots of fresh fruit, yoghurt and a variety of yummy cereals followed by cooked breakfasts including home- laid eggs. Perfect!

All the ingredients are there. A quiet countryside. A large garden with lots of birdlife. A big house. And a hospitable, dog-loving family. For me, this checks all the boxes of a traditional Bed and Breakfast.
The rooms are spacious,. Our room included had a large bath room, providing all the modern day amenities.
The place is close to the historic site of Avebury, and the iconic Stonehenge is also not far away.

Room tip: Ask for garden view

We stayed overnight at the Sanctuary having walked the first section of the Ridgeway long distance path. The proprietress kindly let us leave our luggage at her establishment in the morning whilst we took a taxi to Overton Hill where the path begins.

Arriving back at the Sanctuary in the afternoon (a little footsore) we were welcomed into the conservatory and offered drinks and a lovely selection of biscuits.

Our room was quiet and looked out onto the large garden at the back of the property where we noticed some handsome hens roaming freely. Within was a washbasin and the private bathroom was next door. Thoughtfully, dressing gowns were provided.

Following supper at the "Inn with the Well", which is five minutes walk from the Sanctuary and on the same road, we returned and enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep.

In the morning the very delicious breakfast was again served in the conservatory. There was an extensive choice of cooked and continental options, fresh fruit, and a selection of excellent home made jams and marmalade.

Once again we were amused to watch the antics of the hens on the lawn and the proprietress explained that she was an enthusiast for unusual breeds and had, from time to time, been involved in finding new homes for birds which had spent their previous lives in battery farms.

As we set out for the next day of our walk we felt well rested and well fed. As our bonus our luggage was taken on to the next stopover in our journey by one of the Sanctuary team.

All in all this was a most enjoyable stay and I would not hesitate in recommending the Sanctuary to others.
