Description: This is the largest and one of the oldest restaurants in San Juan del Sur. It is the most popular restaurant serving traditional Nicaraguan beach fare. Located right on the beach! Full service, full bar. Fabulous sunsets!

We went to El Timon at the recommendation of our lodge and we weren’t disappointed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, particularly given our very limited Spanish. We asked our server to recommend the house specialties and ordered the seafood plate for 2. There were 5 of us, so we ordered a few other dishes, including the ribs and the shrimp nachos, and ended up having more food than we could consume. It was all fantastic! And the beach setting made it all the more enjoyable.

We dropped in with a few of us just to have a couple of drinks but when we saw the seafood soup being served at the next table we stayed long enough to work up an appetite.....which is no mean feat when you’re on a cruise! It certainly didn’t disappoint.....a ton of fresh seafood served in the tastiest broth you can imagine. The atmosphere was awesome and the scenery just sensational. If I’m ever back in Nicaragua I’ll drop in for sure.

If you want seafood this is the place to go in SJDS, it's definitely not cheap but the portions are big. Fried fish fillet was fresh and tasty, breaded shrimp was very good too and it had like 20 big shrimps (we shared this one). Ceviche is ok and the attention from the waiters was very good.

Great service at this classic Nicaraguan food restaurant right on the bay in SJDS. The food was solid, wasn't blown away but certainly good for a nice lunch and definitely a great value, prices were very reasonable. This place seems to be real tourist attraction, we happened to visit on a day when a large cruise ship was docked in the harbor and the place was packed with cruise ship visitors. Took away from any semblance of a local vibe. The waitstaff was wonderful, very prompt and courteous.
