“Portland Weekend”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

Being a loyal SPG member I chose to stay at the Westin in Portland during a recent weekend away in Portland. The hotel met every expectation of a Westin property, although it does not have a pool. Lobby bar was a great meeting point for our group of friends and we spent a good amount of time there in between enjoying all that Portland has to offer.

Overall very nice, clean hotel in a good part of downtown. The rooms could be bigger. The staff was friendly.

Great staff, know how to do their jobs, from valet to front desk. Truly have a can do attitude. Crisp and professional, but also warm enough. Parking a bit high though at $35 a day. Maybe I just don't run in those circles and that is normal pricing. Overall hotel was excellent.

Staff are very helpful. I arrived late from a flight and they were extremely welcoming, helping me to check in with minimum fuss.

Room was very comfortable, a good size, and who doesn't love those heavenly beds!

I didn't eat in the restaurant, just got some tea and some yogurt at he bar each morning. Bar looks very interesting, they have a wonderful fire at the bar.

Portland has a great food culture, with a vibrant 'food truck' culture. The Westin is perfectly located to explore these food trucks, and I highly recommend this.

Gym is not great, one of the running machines had shattered glass and the entire area is very small.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room.

We returned to Portland for a college tour, staying once again at the Westin downtown. We were impressed with the property and service last year, so didn't hesitate to book our stay again. We weren't disappointed with our choice. This is a great property, smaller than Westins in other major cities, but with large, clean, comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Service from all the employees, like last year was professional and courteous.

The location of the Westin couldn't have been more convenient for us. It was a short walk to take the college campus tour, there were many shops nearby including Pioneer Square, the unique, interesting Pearl District and of course Powell's Bookstore.

There is a great food cart scene in Portland and just a block from the hotel on SW Alder there is a full block of carts. There is a huge choice, serving every possible cuisine one could think of for a tasty, reasonably priced lunch. Restaurants that we tried while in Portland were Masu Sushi, Henry's Tavern and Basta's Trattoria. Our daily coffee stop was just at the corner from the hotel at Public Domain for delicious rich coffee and pastries. Wish they had a branch where we lived.

The Westin Portland is a solid choice while staying in downtown Portland, clean, beautiful, conveniently located with a great staff.
