We were continuing our drive up the Oregon coast and decided we were hungry. Well there aren't many decent places to stop that we could find. We happened on this restaurant by accident. Neat little place that has an oyster plant on site. There is also a fish market there as well. My husband had fish tacos and clam chowder. He really liked the chowder but not the tacos very much. The fish in the tacos was very good but he just didn't care for the other items on it. I had fried shrimp. They were good but nothing outstanding. Staff was very friendly and tried to get my husband something else to eat but he declined. It was neat to watch the people in the oyster plant. Boy do they work fast!! If you have time you should stop here.

There is something wholesome about seafood, something normal food cannot do for us. It was seafood that caused the primate brain to double in size. It was seafood that gave one of the two essential protiens to women so they can give birth without mutations and so they can nurse. 90% of humanity lives next to the sea and here in Newport the mighty Pacific gives up her harvest, caught by some of the last true hunter-gatherers on the planet. Straight from the boats to your table!

Unpretentious, friendly, informal. The oyster po' boy was delicious, with large and plentiful oysters. A glass wall allows patrons to watch the catch of the day being processed. Service was fast and friendly, and prices were low.

The oysters are the reason I keep returning to the Fish Peddler. Their sister restaurant in Bay City may be a little better but I'm splitting hairs here. The size and freshness would be hard to beat, and the seasoned batter is light so the full flavor of the oyster comes through.

Best clam chowder in town, so creamy!!! Best food in town, no kidding. Eat in the restaurant, a hidden gem. Great deals on fresh seafood too. Even the locals recommend it!!
