So much more than just a museum and a store. Pay 25 cents and enter a magical world straight from the artists' hearts. Not only are the birdhouses beautiful, the entire museum is a masterpiece that should not be missed. Even if you are not interested in purchasing a birdhouse, you will find the museum enjoyable to browse. Be sure to take a moment to visit with the talented and knowledgeable artist-owners, Amen and Maria. They will be happy to share their bird knowledge with you and explain the science behind why their houses attract birds. We visit the museum each time we are in the Old Town area because the inventory is constantly changing and there is always something new to admire. This stop won't take long and is sure to make your trip special.

Visited recently while exploring the Florence bay front. Amen and Maria are knowledgeable about local birds and their creations are so natural and lovely. There are bird houses and suet feeders made of salvaged forest materials. The shop is light and attractive and they do carry a few other items by local artists. Mostly though its about the items they assemble on site. And you can buy a membership for $5 if you don't carry quarters!

My wife loves birds and desperately wanted to make our property conducive to attracting birds and butterflies. In her research she came upon Given Back Birdhouses in Florence, Oregon. The owners, Amen and Maria Fisher, have diligently put in years of time and effort researching what, exactly, attracts certain birds to human built bird houses. What we had found was that almost no birds would come to the houses we foisted upon them in any of our yards. From the Fishers we learned that one needs to cater to specific birds in your area and that involves specific needs to be met in terms of hole size, available building material, places for insects to hide so-as to feed the parent birds, etc..
So if you need a bird house that works, they definitely deserve a call to help you in your specific area for specific birds. But if you have the chance, visit their store in Florence and be prepared to have your socks knocked off as they offer so much more. They are very artistic and Maria uses her talents and Masters in Commissioned Fine Arts to create not only bird houses but works of wooden art that are both beautiful and functional. We purchased a painting she did some time ago inlet into a piece of bark that my wife could not leave behind. It has become a reminder of many experiences she and I have had through the years and a memory of a student of hers whose life was cut short the day we purchased it.
From bird houses to hand-made custom furniture they will not disappoint!

Their store is a 'working museum' and they ask a quarter to enter - pay it. You will not be disappointed I assure you. It will be well worth your time to stop by and say "Hello'!

A young couple have just opened a new and fascinating attraction in Florence's Old Town at 1300 Bay Street next to the Gazebo Park. We were enchanted. It was like walking into a forest with a big window to the Siuslaw River. Both of these young people, Maria and Amen Fisher, were enjoyable to talk with. They are passionate about teaching us how to preserve natural homes for birds, bees and bats. it's a place to bring the grand kids.
