“Biggest disappointment of our trip”

Before heading to Tulsa, one of my friends said that we should check out Oral Roberts because of its unique architecture so we made a stop.

When asking questions to student staff members, they were short with us and not helpful. Not a great beginning. The architecture, including the Prayer Tour, was very 60s Star Trek inspired and not at all interesting nor beautiful. After 20-30 minutes, we left very disappointed.

I would not make a special trip to ORU just to see it...but if you are driving by it is worth seeing. Of course, I have been at several events here so maybe I am just too used to it.

Although this visit is not for everyone, it is really a great experience for many. For some, visiting the campus will be like walking on "holy ground". Living proof of one man's faith in God to do something with nothing. It is certainly inspiring to walk in the prayer gardens, visit the prayer tower and see positive wholesome students. If you need a dose of inspiration or maybe prayer, a peaceful walk at ORU might do the trick.

From reading a few tour books, we got the impression that viewing the architecture of Oral Roberts University was a "must see" attraction when visiting Tulsa. It's got a fun/quirky but also tired/dated field. One tour book accurately likened it to an area of Disney that had not been updated in many years.

We were disappointed the visitor center there didn't seem to include placards or pamphlets that explained who Oral Roberts was or gave a history of the University. When we asked, we were directed to a book. We did not have time to read a book.

If you know you'll enjoy touring the campus and architecture, great. If you're unsure, take a look at some of the pics posted here. If you're having doubts and are short on time, there are prob. better sites in the Tulsa area.

On town on a business trip. Having lived in Tulsa, I've seen all of this before, but a co-worker never had so I drove him around the campus just to look around. He was impressed with the architecture of the buildings and thought that the campus was very pretty. While driving by the baseball stadium, I noticed that there was some construction work going on just to the north of the stadium. Looks like they are putting in a new track and field complex. Should be a nice addition to a small but pretty campus.
