“Thalia is Heaven - tranquility is guaranteed”
Reviewed 8 June 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Our stay at Thalia in April 2015 was one of the most amazing experiences we have had in Tasmania. The accommodation feels Mediterranean in design. The views are absolutely the finest Tasmanian vistas you could ever find. The ceiling to floor windows let the ocean and sunlight flow into the rooms. The kitchen is an Aladdin's cave of cooking implements and gadgets with a well stocked pantry of basic provisions and an open fire to try your hand at cooking over a real wood fire - this is a foodies paradise. There is a steam oven for more conventional cooking and super efficient gas hob.

We loved the private beach where you can wonder along the empty pristine white beach and clear waters to the shallow lagoons and watch the pelicans gliding in the warm thermals then dive into the waters to catch their fish. The sand dunes were a haven of beach flora. Gaze at the distant and shimmering dolomite peaks of wine glass bay to the west and Maria Islands dominant volcanic stack visible through the early morning sea mist to the south.

The lounge is dominated by the open stone fire place. Logs stacked to the brim ready to be thrown on to the embers of the last log. There is a well stocked games and book library to entertain or chill out with. The lounge makes for a great communal place to play, talk, be still or just ponder the views from. There is no TV or Internet. This is great. You are gently released from the shackles of your phones, tablets and laptops. You start to talk to the person sitting next to you again!

There is no shortage of space with he house cleverly designed to provide private spaces by way of multiple rooms separate from the main building but all interconnected by the central courtyard. Olive trees and lavender bushes provide a gentle shelter from the elements. This is a beautiful space to sit out in.

There is an outdoor stand alone bathtub that sits on the rear deck overlooking the sea. Here you can bathe with a view over great oyster bay. There is a wood burning sauna and outdoor shower as well as space for yoga and meditation (yoga mats are provided!)

If you like drawing and painting then you will be inspired during your stay here. We painted, drew and collected shells and flotsam and jetsam for sculpting into creations of the mind - great fun!

Night time brings the clear, unpolluted skies simply bursting with astral stars and planets visible with the naked eye. You may be lucky and see the southern lights!

In summary, our stay here with our children was incredibly relaxing and special. We will never forget it. A couple of days here will feel like you have been on holiday for a month! Its awesome!

“Just stay here!”
Reviewed 23 May 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We spent several nights in this magic home. Having a bath under a full moon was unforgettable.

Susan's was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Her attention to detail is lovely.

Then there's that view, it is mind-blowing!

We will stay again and bring our friends and family.

Thanks Susan

“Stunning!”
Reviewed 11 February 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We were 4 adults, 3 children and 3 dogs and found the set up just perfect! There was plenty of space for us all. My immediate thought on entering the house was I just knew 3 nights wouldn't be enough! The stone buildings and setup around a courtyard is incredible and has a genuine Mediterranean feel to it. We all loved the beach, watching the dolphins from the kitchen table, and generally just doing nothing! Even though the weather was warm, we had to light a fire in the fireplace as it was too hard to resist! Can't wait to return.

My Wife and I stayed here for part of our honeymoon and had a very relaxing time. We were able to really soak up the ocean views and sea breeze whilst we were hanging out and it was a great place to come back to after a day of sightseeing and hiking etc.

Although set up for entertaining and accommodating 8 people it is warm and inviting enough that we felt more than comfortable just the two of us.

We hope to visit in the future and next time to share with family and friends.

“This is one of those places you just have to visit!”
Reviewed 28 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

Watching the tides roll in and out from the kitchen window as we cooked up a storm. Sharing our beach with nesting travellers from the other side of the planet. Most of us rarely have the chance to live so intimately with the sea. What an experience!

With family and friends we retreated to Thalia to refresh our energy levels after an exhausting year. Within hours the waves and sun had started weaving its magic. After a day it was becoming a blur. Where were we again? Greek Islands? Oh that's right, on the east coast of the island of Tasmania in the southern ocean.

Thank you for your lovely review -- I'm so glad your group was able to relax and re-group. It's always so restorative to live by the rhythms and changing moods of ocean and tides, such a break from the daily pressures of alarm clock, school bus and traffic :) We've put it some new games since your visit, as well as a high chair and baby cot with beautiful organic cotton sheets and bamboo blankets, so soft to the touch... Please come again!
