This is a large rose garden with many different species of roses all around. Spectacular and colourful view... red, pink, white, yellow, orange roses...

The smell of the flowers was wonderful as well.

Worth a visit.

Even so, still worthwhile walking through and around, the gardens must be fantastic in summer.

November 2009 was second visit to the National Rose Garden at Longford, first in 2002 when it was in its infancy. The timing was a tad past the prime time for some varieties but still great with the rose bushes looking magnificent. For lovers of photography and rose flowers this is heaven. It was late afternoon with the light perfect for true colours, but too late to get around the whole garden (arrived 3.30pm and garden closes 4.30pm). As you walk around the perfumes float in the light breeze. The collection covers a vast range of rose types David Austin, Tea, Floribunda etc. with the garden layout based on a portage. If you are a lover of roses then It is best to get there early in the day to allow time to go around the Rose gardens and take a guided tour of the Woolmers estate and gardens (entry charge to both), cafe also available for teas & meals. Well worth a visit even out of main flowering time.
