Booked in at the last minute having given up travelling between Hampshire and Suffolk due to appalling weather. Slight mix-up with the booking via ActiveHotels.com as, apparently, it should have stated that no bookings are taken after 6pm (it said 8pm). In any case we were not able to get into the hotel (which is actually a B&B) until the manageress had returned at c. 9.30pm. In the interim, though, the owner had recommended one of the most fantastic Italian restaurants I have ever dined at (Bel Vedere in Bagshot) so no particular hardship.
Once we were able to turn up and get in, the place was great and the welcome from the manageress was very pleasant. It's down a private cul-de-sac and hence feels relatively "off the beaten track." It was certainly quiet. The rooms are extremely well decorated, each with a fairly lavish French and/or Italianate theme. The equipment in the rooms is great, with fresh milk and complimentary snacks, decent TVs and sound systems, and wireless internet. Good, powerful shower. Pretty much everything you need. My only problem was that my bed was rock hard, but some people like that.
Breakfast in the morning was served by a lovely waitress and cooked very well - albeit that some of the ingredients could have been a bit more special (the bacon tasted like supermarket stuff, but I could be wrong). The decor in all of the public areas is very nicely done and good quality - and it looks as if there are some gardens to stroll through in the evenings.
All in all, for the brief time that we were there, then notwithstanding the slightly odd arrangements for turning up and checking in, it's a very good place, ood value for money and, I should imagine, streets ahead of the modern "chainy" places in this area. Recommended.
