We stay at the Gables whenever we visit Porlock for one of our regular walking trips in the beautiful countryside. Chris and Louise have taken over and have maintained the same high standards. You are always assured of a warm welcome and a comfortable bed for the night. Oh and breakfast is excellent too.

A 2 day stay in North Devon, must recommend a great B+B stay in Porlock village. We stayed at ‘The Gables’ a traditional, beautiful, rustic thatched roof cottage. Very ‘Chocolate Box’ type image of a building. Built in the 1600’s it is very pleasing to the eye. Entering the wooden front door, the place is very homely and welcoming. The new owners are excellent hosts. Informative, welcoming and not imposing or overbearing. We were guided through the communal lounge which is full of old world charm with French windows looking out and leading to the beautiful garden area complete with water feature fountain and immaculately trimmed hedges and flowers in abundance. The hosts offered us tea on arrival but we were too excited to see our room and the rest of the Cottage. We were lead upstairs {The gables have 2 staircases} to our room. The place is very tidy and very clean and tastefully decorated to reflect the great Character of the house. As you can tell by now we liked it at first site.
Our room with lovely ensuite bathroom was perfect, lush carpet, large double bed with crisp fresh cotton sheets, ample complimentary teas and coffee to choose from, biscuits too, small flatscreen tv, table and to chairs, a lovely leaded window overlooking the garden and the narrow country lane, stunning, cosy and homely. The windows were open on our arrival it was a sunny day and the quietness of the village was just what we wanted. A perfect base to explore North Devon. The breakfast service is great, just right to start the day, cereal, fruit juice and a full English is on offer, It was very good too. Overall a top notch stay, we recommend it and would definitely return.

This is a fabulous building, so quaint and with a lovely garden, carefully tended by the owners. Gorgeous and comfortable bedroom, with a garden view. Helpful hosts served up a delicious cooked breakfast for us.
