“Lovely hotel to stay in, wonderful surroundings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2012

We came across the Raven quite by chance when we visited Much Wenlock. As we were looking for a place to break our journey to North Wales we decided to give it a try the next time we were travelling, I am so glad we did. The hotel is very comfortable, the food is quite often memorable and the welcome is warm. Add to that the close proximity of Ironbridge and the superb scenery of Shropshire not to mention the charm of Much Wenlock itself we have returned many times since. We normally upgrade to the superior rooms, well worth the extra 10GBP in our opinion, the beds are comfortable, and the rooms well furnished and well thought out. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in this area. I would estimate that we have stayed there 5 or 6 times. The last occasion being the date shown below.

We found this hotel and village by accident. We were touring the UK and had no booking for the night and wanted to stay somewhere close to Wolverhampton to attend the soccer the next day, but still in the country. Wow what a find. The receptionist was very friendly and knocked a few pounds off the price. We got chatting and it seemed the chef followed the same football team as my husband, Wolves, and she seemed chuffed that we had come from Australia to go to a game! We were given a room in the old forge at the back of the hotel which was like being in a converted hay loft. Lovely entrance area. Parked right at our door. Good security locks on the doors. Beautiful fittings, clean, light and airy, massive flat screen tv, king sized bed, red velvet furnishings, shower over bath, free wi fi, I felt like I was in a palace! We noticed lots of groups of retired age people turning up for their "weekend break". It was nice to see them all sitting around in the bar, laughing and chatting. We chose not to eat at the hotel but to explore this newly discovered part of Shropshire. This village is amazing, with so much history. We ate at one of the local pubs and strolled back 3 minutes to our lovely forge room. Breakfast was lovely and served in the quaint breakfast room. I could have stayed a few more days. What a lovely friendly hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the old forge.

We stayed in this hotel overnight whilst visiting family in the area. The disabled room is situated in The Forge, a separate building to the main hotel, and was spacious and well heated with a large easily accessed en suite bathroom. There is no separate shower, it is situated over the bath butI was made aware of this at the time of booking so it was my choice to accept the room. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and the staff are friendly and attentive. The evening meal was excellent albeit a fixed menu, but understandable given that we stayed in the week between Christmas and New Year. Breakfast was a great experience with a wide choice of food available, and all freshly cooked, a fabulous change to the pre-cooked food kept hot under heat lamps that you get in so many hotels now. For me the only downside was that the disabled room was away from the main hotel building and whilst the actual distance between the two is very slight, if you have mobility problems be warned you will need transport across the car park from one to the other.
Other than that a lovely place to stay, good value, good food and friendly efficiant service.

My partner and I stayed for two nights between Christmas and New Year. Apart from problems with the heating in the forge where our room was it was an excellent stay. The food was very good and the Raven beer in the bar was outstanding.

We were booked in here by the bride for a wedding party but liked the hotel so can imagine coming back for an independent break. You couldn't be anywhere else but England ... but unlike some typically English hotels this one was comfortable with excellent service. The cooked breakfast was delicious so all in all a thumbs up.

Much Wenlock is a really attractive place and we enjoyed our trip here very much.
