Owner description: A visitor centre set within the ancient oak and birch woodland which formed the legendary forest home of Robin Hood. Ecologically important for its ancient oaks and heathland, supporting many rare insects. The visitor centre, soon to be replaced by a newer development, includes shops, a restaurant, and a small exhibition about Robin Hood. It hosts many fun family events including the hugely popular August "Robin Hood Festival."

We had a wonderful walk with our 3 year old and dog, choosing to walk to the Major Oak. The paths were clearly signposted and not too muddy, despite the huge amount of rain we've had lately.
We stopped for coffee/tea at the visitor's centre- it was ok. We were pleased to be able to take the dog into the entrance of the cafe.
Toilets in the visitor's centre were clean. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Had a fantastic visit.

Thank Jo k

Visited the Forest Visitor Centre over the easter holidays. The centre is quite run down and definitely needs a re boot but as entrance is free, I can understand why it has not been updated! The staff were all very friendly, we were able to hire an electric mobility scooter on the day for my grandfather which gave him some independence and ability to see the old oak tree. The forest is beautiful and the dogs absolutely love it!

We arrived on a wet Easter Saturday the weather kept the crowds away and we pretty much had the place to ourselves donning waterproofs and wellies we set off.
The paths are a bit muddy with puddles if this is not your thing then be warned but we like it walking in a forest should not be on tarmac paths. My two. year old grandson had to jump in every puddle and had a great time.
The visitor centre is a bit dated in fact it’s just as I remember it when our children were small but it’s fit for purpose and good for children .
After our adventures in the forest we went to the cafe which again is dated but the food was ok and the prices reasonable
We will definitely come again as the little one loved it

We walk with my wife and daughter until we reach the mayor oak tree (more than a thousand years old)

Starting to look a bit dated with the new visitor centre being built but a welcome and warm retreat from the snow.
