“Great Cottage. Great Location. Great Holiday.”
Reviewed 13 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

What a fantastic holiday. Due mainly to the comforts and location of the Cottage. Very peaceful but still close enough to the A1 to make getting around the sights and locations in Northumberland very easy. Bamburgh is a lovely place with a nice selection of shops, tea rooms and pubs for meals. The access to the beach is easy and the walking on the beach is a dream. Only things I will mention to make life easier at the cottage would be a manual for the induction cooker and a set of pans suitable for the induction cooker. We struggled with the hob. A small coffee table to allow cups/glasses to be place while soaking up the view from the double windows while lounging on the big, leather sofa would have been useful. Would definitely book this cottage again if returning to Northumberland.

This valuable feed back brought to our attention a couple of important issues which we were not aware of but have now resolved. The manual for the hob is left at the cottage and new pans have been provided and checked. We have also acquired a lovely old wooden chest with rope handles, which we have up-cycled into a coffee table and storage. Thanks for this and look forward to seeing you again.

“Ideal location, cosy cottage”
Reviewed 26 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

The location of the cottage is ideal for access to lots of tourist attractions and handy for the A1. The wood burner works well although only enough wood for one evening was provided and that may have been just left by previous people, but the garage at Purdy Services sells wood and kindling.

We had expected 'linen' to include towels and it didn't so we had to buy new towels which was a bit annoying, especially as using brand new unwashed towels creates a huge amount of fluff everywhere.

The shower is very very slow to drain and probably needs looking at, along with some of the sealant in the shower as it trickles from shower behind sink. Also there are some basics missing from the kitchen that would have been handy, e.g. Baking tray, second oven glove, fridge door is missing shelf for milk etc.

There are also no fire tools and these can usually be picked up cheaply but without them there is a risk when adding wood to the stove or if logs dislodge and could do with moving.

Overall we have really enjoyed our stay though and the points raised could easily be rectified by the owners and would bring it up to what I would have given 5 out of 5 for.

We are grateful for the feedback provided - most of it positive - but have also acted to address the other minor issues. This is the first year for Bamburgh Gate cottages and we are gradually learning the wide variety of kitchen equipment different guests expect. The fridge door, broken by a previous guest, was already on order and has now been replaced. Towels are offered as an optional extra (which no one has so far taken up) but is clearly there in the menu when booking. Our ambition is to achieve 5 stars from every guests but we are grateful for 4 on this occasion. Thank you.

The first paying guest at 2 Bamburgh Gate had the misfortune to arrive in Feb during a period of appalling cold and wet weather. There was an problem with the bathroom heater not working properly but the shock mentioned was checked-out and turned out to be just static created by new flooring. Free logs were provided by us for the stove to somewhat compensate for the reduced heating in the bathroom but unfortunately these did get wet while standing outside. When the weather eventually settled down the gardens were landscaped and planted.
We have no argument with the validity of this feedback, which was mostly fair. It was welcomed on that basis and acted upon, although we feel the two star rating was somewhat harsh considering that the issues were relatively minor and that overall most of the feedback was favourable.
