I didn't think an old coal mine would be that interesting but this was so well presented and done. Really kept the look of the old pit yet tidied up for the 21st century. As they say in a poster there what is left of those who look after our coal mining areas are now trying to make a legacy for the future. Not only is the history of coal written and presented superb alongside general history there is a large exhibition space which when we visited held a superb art gallery.
Also lots to do for kids who eventually spent most of our time there with an easter pirate school they loved and a great industrial play area plus indoor creative area. We spent fours hour there and ran out of time!
Only negative was the uncleanness of the indoor picnic area but I suppose at least they had one on a cold windy but sunny northern day.
Really good staff too.
