Spent the weekend here for my birthday a few years ago. It's a really spooky atmospheric place. My husband (a Scottish man) still refers to how scary the ghost tour was in the woods where his countrymen were killed. The ghost tour is great fun and very creepy. Not sure I saw anything supernatural but we did have lots of orbs in our pictures of the apartment which was a little spooky when we looked at them. I love all that so was in my element. Great place to visit.

We visited Chillingham Castle in October after deciding to visit both the Castle and the Cattle on the same day, The Castle itself is well worth a visit if only to see the eclectic mix of mismatched items the owner has collected while on his travels without the fact they are now housed in a fantastic building. The tearoom is also worth a visit it offers homemade produce at a reasonable price. All the staff are friendly and helpful willing to share their knowledge of the castle. If you do visit please don't expect a National Trust style property or something similar to Alnwick Castle Chillingham is worth a visit just because of it's unique way of working.

Supposedly a very haunted castle. Could do with a good tidy up and a good dusting! Lots of eclectic items dotted about and no particular theme. Give it a miss if your wanting to see something spectacular!!

I am so sorry you feel our loved Castle needs dusting. Maybe ancient castles love a bit of dust? Chillingham Castle has a great history and Sir Humphry likes to demonstrate this in his vast collection of antiques and artefacts shown throughout. I know the 'eclectic items' you describe do need the Guidebook to understand them because they come from so many different places in the world. Do, please, visit us again and Sir Humphry would be most willing to explain things to you. I, so, hope you loved our beautiful gardens and Tea Room?

Fascinating time exploring the nooks and crannies of the castle . Full of lots of artefacts. Lots of personal touches from the owners own history. Nice to go to such a personal home .

Fresh from our meeting with the Chillingham cattle we were ready for anything at the Castle.I really thought initially that it was very odd with the initial emphasis on torture - iron maiden, stretching on the rack etc etc and I was almost prepared for going home. However as you go upstairs it all improves and the visitor is greeted by rooms of 'clutter' but interesting clutter and described by some very informed attendants. We were informed that the owner was very knowledgeable and he knew what he was buying. The bath once briefly owned by Mick Jagger is of interest and much of the stuff can be described as memorabilia. The chapel was peaceful and the cafe was a pleasant retreat. The Lakes and grounds were quite delightful and all in all it was an experience - an interesting experience - far removed from NT or EH.
