Description: Tap and Kitchen is a waterside restaurant and bar at Oundle Wharf, Northamptonshire. Unpretentious, honest dishes comprise simply cooked ingredients sourced locally, where possible. We make pretty much everything ourselves from preserves to puddings through to chutneys and sauces and even homemade bacon, sausages and beans at breakfast; Daily service covers morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, bar food and dinner, as well as breakfast at the weekend. A friendly bar serves an extensive range of drinks including beers from our Nene Valley Brewery.

At last got to try this place. Decor, atmosphere, staff & food all good. Had chickpea starter, parfait & beetroot dishes all delicious. Mains, burger, brisket burger, steak , very tasty. Desserts Ice Cream, Sticky Toffee Pudding & the Lemon Posset which was heaven! I'd rang earlier and asked for a candle with my partners dessert which they did which was much appreciated. Total bill for 3 courses for 3 people, 2 red wines, 2 beers & 2 cokes £100.80p. Definitely recommend, afterwards sat outside to finish out drinks as it's right next to the river and it was a lovely sunny day. Will go back again in the evening sometime with friends.

We were recommended to visit this restaurant by Friends. The decor is pretty unique and the lunch menu was varied. We just wanted a light bite and ordered the salt beef sandwich and the ham hock with egg. The food was very tasty but the staff really let the place down. The kitchen staff used foul language which we could hear sitting at the wall furthest away from the kitchen. Staff were on their mobile phones and calling each other "Dick heads" and commented when a family came in with children. To be frank I don't expect to hear this when I am paying for good food in a restaurant that's pretty highly rated. I did speak to the manager on the day to highlight what I had heard. He was very apologetic and advised that he would speak to his staff. Good fresh quality food but the staff don't match the food standard I'm afraid.

Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch here. Generous portion sizes, including the kid's options. Delicious desserts too. Waited a fair while for the food but it was a very busy time. Will go again.

Title says it all really ... good food, but laughably expensive. It's no good spotting a largely captive, largely affluent clientele, jacking up your prices and then resting on your rather withered laurels. £7 for a side plate of chickpeas with four bits of feta is ridiculous. And if you're charging £16 for steak it had better be outstanding. Nice try, but a miss. Oh, and when we asked if we could eat outside the answer was yes, so long as we came in to place our order and back in to collect our food from the bar. Really?!

A group of us had a lovely Saturday afternoon spent at the excellent Tap & kitchen after visiting the brewery for a guided tour. The restaurant was very modern and the food was excellent. The staff were very courteous and helpful and efficient in serving out the food.
