“Good first impression but some shortcomings”
Reviewed 3 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We feel a bit stingy to rate the lodge as average, but it didn't merit very good - we would say that it was "good".

The lodge (17) was in a very attractive setting with panoramic views from the glass walled sitting room/kitchen. This large room provided a very good social area. However, the seating was not very comfortable. The settees were too deep and the dining table only had three chairs with backs. Three people had to make do with a bench at each meal - probably OK for kids but not for adults during an evening meal.

The kitchen was not particularly well equipped. Several items had to be requested, but were promptly brought by the accommodating staff on site. The en suites were rather cramped, the sinks tiny and the spray from the showers difficult to keep within the cubicles as they were open to the sink and toilet area - it wasn't a wet room but ended up as one!
Later on in the evenings the hot water became a trickle.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were very poorly lit - the slitty windows were a strange contrast to the enormous ones elsewhere.

Parking was also a problem which was surprising given the amount of space surrounding each lodge. It was unclear about who should park where which resulted in a lot of juggling to let people in and out. The parking areas were also very muddy - in worse weather it would have been a nightmare getting in and out of cars without spreading muck everywhere. It surely couldn't have been too difficult to provide sufficient hardstanding for guests' cars.

These shortcomings didn't completely spoil our stay which we enjoyed. The management on site were very helpful, especially on New Year's Eve by sorting out our taxis. On balance we would probably not return but might try Natural Retreats in a different location..

“Wish I owned this lodge”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We stayed here for my birthday weekend and would recommend thoroughly . Set in peaceful grounds and well spaced from other properties our lodge was stylish and very spacious. Very well equipped throughout . We slept exceptionally well in the huge, comfortable bed. I wish I owned it as would be there every weekend. Very tranquil and surrounded by lovely scenery.

“Truly Idyllic!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Me and my family booked this lodge for 1 week for the end of June. We were very impressed with the service from the concierge team and the lodge itself. When we got there Cheryl from the concierge team came to greet us and make sure everything was ok with the lodge, we only had to contact her once as there was a problem with the sink which was fixed in a matter of hours. The lodge was clean and very impressive and straight away i felt relaxed. It wasn't too far into Richmond, however the walk back was a killer after a full day walking round Richmond then tackling the uphill stretch to the lodge was challenging, however keeps me fit!
I would highly recommend these lodges I have to say only small points though and not complaints just a few things to make the lodges even better:
Comfy sofa! After a long day a nice comfy sofa would be lovely to come back to - don't get me wrong it wasn't massively uncomfy!
Tea towels - just a little thing but all of us never even thought about it so had to buy them
Wifi - only worked for us a couple of hours throughout the week, not sure if just too many people are on it

We upgraded to a premium lodge which I don't know if it makes a massive difference to the inside of the lodge but it was deffo worth it due to the location of the lodge, we weren't right next to anyone so not overlooked at all.

If you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind then this is the place for you!

I would definitely return!

“Excellent stay in beautiful countryside”
Reviewed 24 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We stayed in lodge number 10 which had 3 spacious bedrooms all en-suite. The beds were roomy and the shower in our room was nice and warm and quite powerful? The living area was open plan which was very spacious. It had a large dining table, comfy sofas and sky TV. The kitchen was well equipped with fridge and dishwasher. There was also a boot room with plenty of room for wet clothes and room to leave a dog. The room had washing machine and a freezer. The outside decking area was large with deck chairs and dining table, chairs and parasol. The setting is surrounded by beautiful countryside and lots of birds and rabbits. The lodges are positioned with lots and lots of space between them and not looking onto one another. There are lots of places to walk without having to get in the car. Richmond is a pleasant walk away. There are some nice cafe's and places to eat out in the surrounding area. I am happy to recommend this place and will definitely stay again.

“relaxing, peacefull beautifull, corner of the world”
Reviewed 16 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend in eco-lodge 10. The lodge was lovely and clean, very comfortable, with all amenities and sky tv was an added bonus. The three double bedrooms are very spacious each with their own en-suite facilities. The lodges are set in beautiful surroundings with superb views across the valley. Richmond is only a short walk away. A great place to re-charge your batteries. I would definitely go back.
