We were pleased to see the "Dogs Welcome" sign so we called in for lunch, there was a very friendly welcome from the landlady and the offer of a bowl of water for our little fella. The pub has an olde world charm about it, is very clean and the regulars appeared a friendly bunch.
The menu was usual pub fayre and it wasn't difficult to choose what we wanted. The prices are reasonable for a pub in the centre of town close to the castle.
As mentioned by others despite not being over full the food took an age to arrive but when it did it was well cooked and presented.
Based on the food alone I would rate the pub as average for the area but considering the welcome and cleanliness it gets a very good plus we will eat there again when next in the area.

proper old fashioned pub with a great atmosphere and a very bad darts team. Great beer and a fantastic location and good car parking nearby. Accomodation is old but very clean and the breakfast is out of this world. Worth a visit

Saturday lunchtime, only two tables occupied so thought that service would be decent. The menu though limited sounded decent as all described as home cooked. However, whilst we expected a wait as cooking from fresh should not be rushed, we didn't expect to wait for an hour or more for home made burger and a meat pie and vegetables.

There appeared to be only one person on kitchen duty which explained the delay. However, the food was very good and decent value for money and the one member of bar staff was friendly to all.

Stopped in for lunch during a day out sight seeing. Friendly service and really good food. Nothing frozen and pre-formed. Had burgers and chips, all hand made and super tasty. Huge portions. I really recommend it.

Arrived here sat 5th oct at 2.15 to be told room will not be ready till 3. At 3.10 we were taken to our room (4). Well I have never in my 56 yrs stayed in anything as abysmal as this. The bathroom is appalling mold all over the walls and the shower. The shower door had no handle so couldn't close it and struggled to open it! The water poured out of the shower flex but not out of the head!!! This was just the start, we decided not to even try the food as was terrified it was going to be the same as the room. On our return at around 10 pm the pub had a disco a rather loud one at that!!! We had to fight our way through a wall of people to get to the stairway. When we entered the room we were hit by vibrating doors and window with the music blaring in, and to top it off the window was above the smokers corner, so we were also subjected to loud swearing and screaming from the 'smokers' also had to listen to lots of screams of a sexual nature. The music went on till around 12.30 am but the 'smoking' corner carried on for another hour. We were dreading our breakfast, which in fact was good.
