We had a fantastic 3 night stay with our two children aged 18 and 21. It was perfect as we were on the ground floor in a double en-suite and they were on the top floor in a lovely light room with a large shared bathroom right next door to them. The owners could not have been nicer! The cooked breakfast was the best we've ever had - cooked to perfection and not at all greasy. The lounge was great as we could sit there for a chat with a view of the sea. Lovely location as quiet but near everything you need. The breakfast room is charming. We really did love it!

Room Tip: The en-suite in the double room on the ground floor is a tight sqeeze. The twin room at the top is great!

Stayed for 3 nights. Had a double on the ground floor with small ensuite made by nibblling out of it. Might perhaps been a tad squished for 2 people for more than a night or two unless you are out all the time, but for one person, was absolutely fine. Helpful provision of a fan, the bed was v comfortable, towels changed every day. Breakfast exactly right, though served relatively early (8.30-9) which might not work if you like a lie- in! Run by very helpful and friendly owners who were able to answer questions about buses etc. There is a comfortable lounge for residents that looks over the sea and would be a good place to rest and read or watch TV rather than staying in your room. Location easy walk to anywhere in Margate , also bus stop for Canterbury just outside.

Booked last minute, had to take a twin room with shared bathroom as it was the last room available and we really wanted to stay in town. Great location, parking was easy as free on some of the side roads and we found a space just round the corner. Classic seaside hotel, friendly and welcoming owners, room was just right, shared bathroom huge and right next door. Just a short stroll to everything, Cinque Ports bar is the first decent place for a drink as you walk along the front. Excellent breakfast, just the right amount, would definitely use again.

My partner and I fell in love with Margate over the summer so chose the resort to stay in for a few days in September.

The Somerville Hotel is in the perfect location, minutes from both the station and the beach, yet quiet at night.

The owners are a lovely couple who were very friendly. Our room, on the ground floor, had everything you need for a few days' stay. The ensuite bathroom was very small but everyone, including us, requires an ensuite these days so older hotels have had to make these ingenious upgrades! Having said that, the worked well and the whole room, ensuite included, was delightful.

We were lucky enough to have very good weather when we stayed, meaning the room was a little warm at night, but we were provided with a much-needed fan so that wasn't a problem.

Breakfast was served in the dining room, sub-basement but still very light and airy. The breakfasts are individually cooked to order, and more than sufficient.

The Somerville is a great hotel base for visits to Margate, and the surrounding Medway towns, and I'd have no hesitation in recommending it. Just don't lean on the handbasin! :-)
