Owner description: Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the intriguing second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. The castle is a romantic double moated 13th-century castle which houses historic 16th-century portraits, paintings, furniture, tapestries and treasures. Comprehensive information on the history of Hever Castle can be found in the guide book and audio tours are available from the Hever Shop, Visitor Centre or castle entrance. Visitors can explore the magnificent gardens for all seasons which include Italian, Rose and Tudor gardens, topiary, yew maze and splashing water maze, or take a stroll around the informal areas of Sunday Walk and Anne Boleyn's Walk. Hever hosts a number of special events throughout the season including gardening events with the head gardener and his team. Family fun includes jousting tournaments each summer, one of our most popular events.

“Nice Easter Sunday with the family”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

A bit pricey but the gardens were beautiful even in the rain, and the kids loved trying the archery. The labyrinth maze was a bit disappointing -- the kids did it in about 30 seconds, but the house is lovely and just the right size for viewing but not spending hours and hours. Even grandma managed the narrow stairs well. Nice little gift shop and a nice lunch (although very slow service!) made it a wonderful day out. To be recommended.

Reviewed 22 April 2012

Beautiful castle, lots of good information about it's history and a great display of Henery and his wives, housekeeping do a grand job with the furniture and floors, has a good atmosphere and feels like a home. The gardens are also well kept and lovely to stroll around and unwind...

“Visit Anne Boleyn's House”
Reviewed 21 April 2012

Beautiful Hever Castle began life as a 13th century country house and is located 30 miles south-east of London, near Edenbridge in Kent. The castle was owned by the father of Anne Boleyn, second queen of King Henry VIII, who spent her early youth here. Before becoming a popular public tourist attraction, the castle changed ownership many times over the years, including the residence of the American millionaire William Waldorf Astor. Inside, there are three floors to view impressive antique furniture, Anne Boleyn's prayer books, instruments of torture, and a large collection of Tudor paintings. The castle grounds provide a range of features to view including Italian, Rose and Herb gardens plus a traditional Yew maze and a unique splash water maze, the object of which is to get to the folly at the centre without getting wet. In the summer months there are many events including spectacular jousting tournaments and impressive archery displays. Visiting Hever Castle is a great day out and ideal for older families, however, whilst there is a superb adventure playground and the mazes, younger children may find the day a challenging experience to maintain interest.

“Tad expensive but a treat.”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

Everything about the place is wonderful. Have been a couple of times, but it isn't cheap!
The castle is fairly small but well worth looking around. There are vast grounds to explore, from rose garden to water maze (for the kids).
