Probably our fifth stay here. It's a great building in a great location right on the beach. However the nicest thing about the hotel is the young, cheerful, helpful staff. We stayed over the Mothers Day weekend, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the restaurant was absolutely rammed all day. However the staff were, as ever, charming, despite having to deal with some very impatient grumpy and showing-off customers, who couldn't understand that a completely full establishment is inevitably going to mean a longer wait for your food. Relax! Have another drink!

The staff are a great asset to the hotel.

We'll be back and back.

Room tip: Go for one of the beachfront rooms and wake to the sunrise and the Boise of waves on the beach.

We booked a table for a meal here, and when we arrived the restaurant was empty. So, rather than sit in such a large room on our own ( it was a bit cold) we went down into the bar area.
The staff are very friendly, but the food was awful. We hastily ate what we could, paid and beat a hasty retreat!!
Also, it is worth noting that people also bring their dogs into the bar area where other people are also eating. So if this does not suit you, then make another choice.
Sorry, Royal, we will not be returning. We use Shepherd Neame pubs quite often, but can honestly say that this is the worst one so far.

Nice welcome, room was clean and bright but very HOT - even when it was cold outside. Had to keep windows open most of the night. No option to turn radiators down.
Bar was friendly but bit pricey - £4.10 for a shandy!

Breakfast - Katie the breakfast waitress was not very friendly and did not even look up when we came down for breakfast or left and mumbled goodbye. Thought staff might have made a bit more effort as it was Mothers Day. Certainly didn't feel special. The other waitress who cleared the tables was very polite and friendly.

Overall, nice and friendly but will try somewhere else next time.

Spent four nights here last week, the first night we stayed in "Bronte" room, then moved into "Wellington" room. What a fabulous room! The staff moved our cases for us. I had checked out the rooms on the hotels on web page but the pictures don't do the room justice. When we opened the door, the first thing I saw was the bath at the window, which of course I had to try out. The room is a good size with lovely patio doors opening out to the balcony. What a lovely view of the ocean and the pier! We came down to Deal for our granddaughters 21st birthday, needless to say the family spent a lot of time at our room. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. My stepdaughter came over to see us and brought her dog and he was made very welcome! Deal is very dog friendly which appeals to us as we have dogs of our own. we will definitely stay at the Royal Hotel next time we are down ( in the Wellington room of course). The room including breakfast is great value for money!

Room tip: Book one of the 3 rooms with balconys

Seems I may be following a previous comment made in November last year. Visiting family my sister and I made our way to the Royal that overlooks the sea and beach to meet friends for a drink on what was a warm sunny spring day, late afternoon. The Royal was busy with both guests and visitors, the bar being very busy, chatting with staff they were dealing with a busy afternoon and summer staff not even taken on yet - they were coping well! We withdrew to the upper area of the bar, enjoying a drink. One reason for the dropped star from the last visit was the number of dogs both in the bar and the hotel and being confronted by the largest St Bernard I had seen for a while at the table next to us.
Our friends left after an hour of a drink and chat and it was decided to take supper and place as order from a very good menu. The Crab and Dill mayo Italian bread was very tasty, with crusty chips the other dish was pulled salt beef and emmental cheese with salad and much enjoyed. One other comment young children not under the control of their parents was a spoiling moment. 0% Calsberg Lager very good.
