An hotel that draws mixed feelings, the location is superb, in the centre of town on the main square, with the ferry teminal and town bus station just five minutes walk away, which makes a carless trip to the island very practical. The Bugle is an old building which 'rambles' internally quite pleasingly and creates it's character (something missing in so many modern hotels) We occupied the 'suite' which stretches across the first floor front and thus gives you a view of life in the town,The suite has a large comfortable sitting room then a much smaller bedroom and even smaller bathroom. The sitting room is great to retreat and relax after a day's walking . The bedroom is really a bit cramped - you need to sidle sideways down the side of the bed to get in; however once in it is very comfortable and we both slept well, although the presence of only one bedside light was a minor annoyance.
The bathrooom presented some grouses - the water pressure was abysmal(this may be an island-wide problem) and tho' the water was hot ,taking a shower was less pleasureable than it should be after a day's exercise, and taking a bath would be impossible. Both toilet and shower are connected to a macerator unit which sounds like a diesel motor starting up. Final point of negativity re the room - the wifi (which is free) is slow and patchy....An hotel that draws mixed feelings, the location is superb, in the centre of town on the main square, with the ferry teminal and town bus station just five minutes walk away, which makes a carless trip to the island very practical. With regard to the food; we ate in twice - first time was above average pub type food, but on the second occasion ,with a new and imaginative menu it was a very good meal, and at reasonable prices I feel tables will need to be booked.
Service throughout was friendly, cheerful and efficient.
In summary we had an enjoyable stay despite some shortfalls, which can in part be attributed to an old buiding.More
