Came back here after a year and despite the odd dodgy review (do on or two of these people have an axe to grind, I wonder?) I'm pleased to say this place remains a fab hotel. Looks like it's had a bit of work done since my last visit to freshen it up a bit and looks great.

Definately a RECOMMEND

When we ordered the small breakfast of about 3£ (scrambled eggs), we decided to ask for toast on the side. This was brought to us and all was fine until we checked out and saw that we had been charged an additional 4,65£ for the toast. We were appalled! It seems that if you order any additional food with a set breakfast, they automatically charge you for a full English breakfast that is in the 7£ range. Well, it's one thing to charge you additionally, but you should at least be told that this is what it's going to cost you before the food is brought to you.
Other than that, the rooms were clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. One of the rooms we stayed in (we were there for 2 different stays in a period of 2 weeks) had a shower with a limited flow of water and a hair dryer that did not work very well. Also, beware of the higher soap dish in the shower: it is a ceramic tile insert that sticks out and I cracked my elbow on it a few times before I had to make it a point to avoid it.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back of the hotel in order not to be disturbed by the street noise, if you like your window open at night.

My husband and I were due to attend a friends party and this was the nearest place to stay and I must say in general it was pretty good.

I am really surprised at others comments in regards to the staff. We found from check in to check out that they were really helpful. Even our very late arrival to breakfast (not having pre booked), they were able to accomodate us and the food was hot and presented to a good standard and we only had to wait 10 minutes, which was no hardship looking over the Common and on a nice sunny day. The staff were friendly and couteous throughout.

The rooms are of a good size and have all the mod cons. They have obviously decorated them fairly recently, The bed was big and comfortable. The only downsides as far as the room goes is that the water pressure is not very good and during the night we heard what we assumed to be the boiler/heating coming into life, but neither of these were of a huge issue to us.

We had dinner in the restarant and the range was good and the dishes priced accordingly.

Have we said in more luxurious surroundings - yes. Have we stayed in more basic accomodation - yes, but the Two Brewers sits firmly in the middle ground. Good basic rooms, food and service at a resonable price.

Checked in by a polite and helpful lady. Room was a good size, clean with usual expected ameneties. Everything in the bathroom worked as it should. Comfortable bed. Slightly above average pub meal in the evening. Varied menu to pick from at average prices. Waiter was a bit irritating trying to push on particular dish - presume they had got a bulk supply running out of date. So far so good. Quiet night once the bottles had been thrown out. Breakfast let the place down. No fruit until we asked for it and generally poor selection of cold food. Waited a long while for our fried breakfast. Make your own drinks.

After a mediocre to poor first visit we were tempted back by the superb location and outlook over the village green. A rather abrupt woman behind the bar firstly made a mistake in who she needed to serve first and when I pointed out her error, I was loudly and unjustly told off. But it was late and we were hungry. 55 minutes later without any food I asked what was happening and was told that there had been a major mess up of orders in the kitchen. No apologies were forthcoming in fact when we were not being ignored we were clearly regarded as trouble makers. Food finally arrived 20 minutes later and was fairly tasty, if a little cold.
We will certainly not return to a place where there is such a total disregard for clients.
