“First visit, will book again soon. Ideal location for forest access”
Reviewed 24 July 2012

We booked at short notice for a weekend break. we were concerned that there were rooms available. Checked it out on Trip Advisor. Good reviews
Booking was easily done over the phone. It was discussed that our room was on the 2nd floor, and whether this would be a problem.
Friendly greeting on arrival by both Ernesto and Etsuko accompanied to the room by Etsuko who pointed out where items such as hairdryer could be found explained breakfast times etc.
The room was very clean, light and airy even with the low beams which was also discussed upon booking (we had no problems with this at all) and the shower was more than adequate and easy to control.
Beds were very comfortable
Lyndhurst is within easy walking distance with a selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants to chhose from. (we can reccomend La Pergola)
Walk 100 metres acros the road to the front of Rufus House you will be in the New Forest with the ponies and cattle grazing freely, ideal for early morning strolls as the mist lifts, prior to breakfast.
We have to agree with all the comments regarding the breakfasts, they are excellent, fresh fruit, yoghurts, toast and cereals followed by a superbly cooked Full English or whatever choice you wish.
This was our first visit to The Rufus House, and will not be our last.
we will definately rebook when we once again return to the Forest

My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend back in March. I thought I'd already reviewed Rufus House, but having realised my mistake I thought I better put a review on quick as I would definitely recommend the place! Others have commented on the breakfasts, and I whole heartedly agree that they are fantastic.

We arrived fairly late on a Friday and Ernesto welcomed us with a smile, taking out luggage up to our room which was on the top floor - just what we needed after a long journey. The B&B is a short walk from the centre of Lyndhurst, which has plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from. The room was light and airy, and well kept. The whole place had a very homey feel to it which just made it easier to relax! There are some wonderful walks around the area, and it was great to have somewhere comfortable to retreat to with tired legs and aching feet! We'll definitely go back next time we're in the New Forest.

Room Tip: We stayed on the top floor with a view of the rear of the hotel and the fields beyond. A lovely view...

We have been staying at Rufus House since Ernesto and Etsuko took over nearly 7 years ago... It really is one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in and we like to try to go away for one weekend every month if our time allows.

Greeted by both upon arrival like we are very good friends.

This was my birthday weekend, and I was given a beautiful box of chocolates and card, what a lovely touch... I love staying here, everything about it is perfect. Exceptionally clean. Beds extremely comfortable. Love having a fridge in the room, wish more hotels did this! Breakfast room very welcoming and fresh. Breakfast as usual plentiful, starting with yoghurts, fresh fruit, cereal, freshly cut bread toasted, followed by a Full English and cooked (by Ernesto), in our opinion, to perfection!!! (you must try the pear jam, made in the New Forest, is lovely and can be bought from Etsuko or Ernesto for just £4).

The location is brilliant for walking through the forest, also situated within a short walk to some lovely restaurants and pubs.

Will we return? Already booked again for December!! Thank you guys, see you soon. xxx

Room Tip: Haven't ever stayed in a room at the front, however, all rooms we have stayed in exceptionally c...

The staff at Rufus House were really friendly and considerate. The room wasn't huge but had a lovely view of the back garden and Lyndhurst is a very quick walk away. Breakfast was lovely as well; I would recommend anyone to stay here.

This was a surprise ruby anniversary trip booked by my husband, and what a gem it turned out to be. Its everything you could hope for in a small hotel. Lovely turreted house, the cleanest rooms we've ever stayed in, friendly, polite owners, and great breakfasts. We know the new forest well and this is an ideal location for exploring the countryside. Its a two minute walk into the town of Lyndhurst where there is a great Italian resturant almost next door, and a fine thai restaurant in the town. Thank you to our hosts for making our special anniversary perfect

Room Tip: If its a special occasion ask for the turreted room with 4 poster bed, although the location is on a...
