Having not been here before I made a reservation. On arrival there were no staff to greet us so we walked to the bar and informed them of our arrival and was quickly shown to our table. We were given cold water and bread and butter which were complimentary. Pork belly bits starter were amazing as were the squid. We both had hanger steak, one other peppercorn sauce and other with blue cheese sauce. Both were amazing! Great little brasserie. Service for drinks were slow and had to prompt twice, but weren’t charged for them. Highly recommended.

We booked a table on a Thursday evening when England were playing football so it was fairly quiet, but it still ouzed an atmosphere that made you feel at home. The service is just perfect, take your time no rush attitude. We started with some great Goose IPA beer at the bar, and believe you me, good craft beer in a restaurant is not easy to find. We then ordered oysters, and were not disappointed, juicy, plump, fresh and tasty. We followed this with fish and chips and also the lamb rack. Both were faultless. The tartare sauce deserves a particular mention as it was the best we have tasted in a long time. The lamb was soft and melted in your mouth. I finished off with an expresso coffee. Had we just found the perfect place to eat? Almost, the one fly in the ointment was the price of the lamb. £22 for two small ribs we thought a little mean. Would we come back? A big yes, this is the way a restaurant should be run. Happy knowledgeable staff, good quality food, the right attitude, and a nothing too much trouble approach.

Found this gem on trip advisor, never heard of Clifford Browns beforehand.

We loved the place, handsome looking restaurant tucked away in the unlikely venue of Knowle village. Greeted very warmly and continued to be well looked after by two lovely waitresses.

Food was first class, steaks amazing, hamburger was juicy with tasty relish (£11 is too cheap for a burger that my daughter described as the best). My sea trout, with cockles, was cooked to perfection. We as a table of 8 throughly enjoyed the whole dining experience.

Only disappointment was that I was too full to try their chessboard...will have to revisit soon!

10 of us visited Saturday lunchtime. Nothing too much trouble, even though we were the last lunch table we didn't feel rushed.
All 10 of us enjoyed the food, with my son trying oysters for the first time - he loved them!
A great meal, good wine, nice atmosphere. Thank you.
