Have stayed before at this hotel and have always been happy with our stay. Now we are Marriott Reward points savers ( loyalty scheme) and have about 10,000 points! The day before we left we received an e-mail to say we could upgrade to a suite subject to availability and pay £40 for a £50 credit for food and beverages. O.K. Arrived at the hotel and the front desk had no idea about the upgrade or the F and B credit. "See the restaurant manageress" said the less than helpful man at reception, and guess what? She had no idea either, even though I could show her the offers on my iPhone. At least she was more helpful and tried to find someone who did. But alas to no avail. Oh well, we decided to try the new to us Iron Grill restaurant. Almost 2 hours for a 3 course meal and drinks was not good, and the attention to detail was not good either.( hake, tomatoes, mushrooms and chips became hake and chips. Shortbread biscuit with afters missing and no relish served with our cheese and biscuits. Perhaps it had been an exceptionally busy night!). Previously to this we went for a swim but the main pool and bubble bath was closed, as it was all week-end.......the safe in our room needed attention........Then as we were checking out, I asked the then different crew at the desk about the upgrades, yes, they knew all about them and said it was a new promotion for points members and had been running for about a month. Pity they were not on duty for our arrival! Our room was lovely and we don't normally moan......

Dear Gedoflittlelever

Thank you for sharing your recent experience here at Waltham Abbey.

I am sorry about the confusion around the e mail received and that my reception staff was not fully up to speed with this. These pre arrival emails are a new service which we are offering and I have spoken to my Front Office Manager to carry out refresher training with his team to avoid these kind of unfortunate situations. Furthermore I have shared your feedback in regards to the dinner with my Headchef who would like to convey his personal apologies for the lack of attention to detail shown on the evening of your dinner.

Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope that we will have the opportunity to welcoming you back to Waltham Abbey in the not too distant future.

Stayed here on the 12th July for my birthday. Had a great stay expect for our experience in the restaurant that evening. The bar staff are lovely and extremely helpful! Went to the restaurant in the afternoon to enquire about gluten free options (as a coeliac) and were given a few to only be told that evening when we sat down these weren't available with no apology or alternatives by the the lady who sat us down. (Clearly a manager)Thank you to our lovely young waitress who helped me with finding options that I could the eat. What let the hotel down was the chef who was extremely slow with our food- waited an hour for one course as our food was being done last to avoid cross contamination- we would have been fine with this had it been explained! Definitely needed more than one chef- or one with more than one speed.
Breakfast chef needs more knowledge on what food he is serving: asked if the sausages were gluten free and replied rather rudely saying of course not they are pork.
Apart from the restaurant the hotel is lovely.

Dear Sophie B

Thank you for sharing your review with us here on Tripadvisor.

I am pleased to read that you overall had a great stay and found our hotel lovely and the staff in the main to be friendly and helpful.

I am sorry that your restaurant experience was slightly disappointing in regards to our coeliac options and the time it took to prepare the food ordered. I have shared your comments in regards to the slow service with my Headchef and furthermore together with our Restaurant Manager we have discussed possible improvements in regards to Dinner/Breakfast offerings when looking after our guests with particular allergies.

Thank you once again for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to Waltham Abbey in the future.

Arrived late Sunday for our overnight stay so didn't get to use the facilities. Booked on Rewards loyalty points, representing a saving of over £70. Located right beside an M25 intersection, so convenient for transport links. Ample car park. King room was comfortable, with large flatscreen tv. Good bathroom with bidet and spa bath. The swimming pool looked great. Will surely return

Deserved a one night break after daughter's wedding. This was just the ticket! Great room, superb evening meal and fab breakfast (with all the options!). Staff here are always exceptional. Just a few meters off the M25 with free parking. Perfect!

The hotel is beautiful great for parking, very family friendly as kids can use the leisure centre and you do not have to pay for overnight parking.....even if you came for an event. We had a great room being a family friendly place the beds were not sofa beds for the kids but very comfortable ones. Breakfast was lovely the staff are friendly and the set up was really nice.
From the reception to the leisure centre everything was perfect.

However, breakfast was do busy they asked us to eat in the bar area, foyer section. Bit uncomfortable with the kids.
