This was our second visit to this hotel, mainly because we like the friendly and very willing staff, and the hotel's excellent location right opposite Southend's famous pier and near both a shopping centre and a station. The rooms were comfortable, although slightly showing their age, and the breakfasts were well cooked although, as other have said, a little over-priced for their limited range, automatic machine-made coffee etc.
There are only two desks in reception, so checking in/out etc. can be slow. The free wifi was excellent.
All in all, I still believe that this is the best hotel in Southend.
A tip for car drivers:- It costs much less (than the muti-storey opposite) to use the car park just beyond the church next door to the hotel, but you have to get to your car by 9am each morning to buy your parking ticket.More
