This used to be a lovely cafe serving great home cooked food in a quick efficient manner at a reasonable price, but how things have changed ! Visited today for first time in ages with our four grandchildren, had to wait for some time to be served, nobody in charge staff milling around not knowing what to do. When food eventually arrived children could not eat the chicken goujons from children's menu as too hot and spicy, my own chicken & mushroom pie arrived some 10 minutes later which looked disgraceful as though sauce had curdled, I did not even want to taste it, however, nobody free to complain to ! Will not be returning.

What a shame as this cafe used to be lovely and served good quality home cooked food. New owners appear to have let it go terribly. Long wait and staff unsure of everything asked to them. Prepacked sandwiches and dried up jacket potatoes under lights. The sausage roll I has was awful cheap quality and I sent it back but was unable to swap it for a sandwich. Do not bother to visit.

We have been visiting Hylands House cafe for years. Whilst the old Huttons sometimes fell short on customer service the replacement owners fall down in every respect. We have visited twice since the new owners took over. The coffee is expensive and served in very small mugs. Sandwiches are available from the chiller - made in a factory off site somewhere. The furnishings have been replaced but the whole place is sterile and lacking in atmosphere. This cafe has so much potential but Chelmsford City Council has made the biggest mistake in procuring this large company to run their cafe. I would recommend bringing your own picnic lunch and a flask of coffee.

Visited on a Sunday - and queue was long and not moving. Customer service was inefficient. Disposable cutlery etc not good for the environment and makes eating difficult. Lost the will to live so left queue and gave up trying to order food

Have been visiting this park and cafe for many years but won’t be coming back.
Food is now served in polystyrene boxes with thin wooden knives and forks. Making jacket potatoes very difficult to eat.
Coffee now served in paper cups too instead of cups and mugs.
Not a great deal of choice either on the menu and service takes quite a while too
Very disappointing visit
