This is a delightful bistro. The food is delicious with a great choice of local fare, the wine list is excellent, the service second to none and the ambience and decor superb. A rare treat in a world of chains this independent restaurant deserves a 6 out of 5. Highly recommended.

Three of us went to The Blue Strawberry, Hatfield Peverel, today for lunch. This was a return visit to the restaurant where we have chosen to dine many times. We were not disappointed. The food was a delight, the service was pleasant and efficient and the restaurant ambiance was as always, pleasant and comfortable. The range of fine dishes on the menu was generous as was the wine list which was an extensive range of quality wines from all round the world. We will of course return at the first opportunity.

We had to park a little way away and the full car park signified the popularity of The Blue Strawberry. Our friends had been before and gave 'rave reviews'...justifiably so.

A friendly greeting and fun efficient staff gave the whole place a really happy atmosphere. Several tables were celebrating birthdays etc and all seemed very happy.

Our food was speedily served and the fresh asparagus with poached egg looked very appetising.

I had the ham hock terrine with onion and thyme toast and apple sauce was absolutely delicious.

Three of our party enjoyed their celebrated steak, mushroom and red wine pie and I enjoyed the Spring lamb saddle which (if a little fatty) was delicious and the sweet potato puree was wonderful.
Our roast potatoes were crispy and tasty and the fresh vegetables were cooked to perfection.

Portions were generous and the desserts (see pictures) were an inexpensive extra that we tried (unsuccessfully) to resist.

Customers came and left happily (possibly when changing the linen the staff should avoid leaving a bare table top). This is a very small point but the whole meal was excellent and we always like a restaurant where they say goodbye and smile when you leave saying that they hope to see you again.

They certainly will.

We drove over one and a quarter hours to get there and the journey was well worth while

Used to live in this village over 25 yrs ago and surprised to be introduced to this upmarket restaurant.

Visited for a Friday family lunch and was charmed by its gorgeous conservatory bar. Impressed by the good, great lunchtime value! Would return again to explore its extensive menu, it was hard choosing what to try!

I started with the goat's cheese mousse (will remember to request less fig jam next time though) and toast need ploughman's from the daily menu with blue cheese sticks and hearty salad. Delicious, no space sadly for dessert.
